Thrifted Jean Shirt to the Rescue

In the summer months, I never leave the house without a jean shirt just in case it gets cooler in the evening or the air conditioning wherever I’m going is cold enough to keep ice cream frozen. I love jean shirts because they are so versatile and can be worn so many ways. My favorite looks are tucking them into a skirt or pants and wearing them open like a jacket. I’m also so into the juxtaposition of wearing them with something dressy to create a fun, dressed down look.

This newly thrifted, over-sized jean shirt is my new favorite. I love how it looks dressed down with this girly retro dress. I’ve been traveling like crazy all summer long and I forgot to pack a jean shirt for my last trip. As the nights are getting a little on the cooler side, I felt so chilly without my denim shirt. My travel companions may have huffed just a little when I dragged them thrift shopping so I could grab a jean shirt. As a thrift and vintage lover, I couldn’t imagine buying or wearing one that wasn’t secondhand. I plan on wearing this over-sized jean shirt a ton!

It’s summer! School’s out, the sun’s out, and everyone wants to go out… to the ball game. It is prime sports season and whether it’s your own freewill or not, you will most likely find yourself watching a game. For fans, sporting events can be a joyous occasion. The suspense of the game and the rigor of the crowd are what you wait for all year. You’re in your element. However, if you’re anything but a sports fan, you’re in your worst nightmare. The suspense of the game is like watching paint dry and the rigor of the crowd scares you. Whether you love or despise the game, you still want to look your best. That can be hard to do when you’re trying to dress for the sporting occasion. Over-sized t-shirts and unisex jerseys are tricky to feel your absolute best in. If you’re a sports fan, you won’t be able to enjoy the game as much as you would if you don’t feel confident in your attire. If you’re anything but a sports fan, sometimes your outfit (and the food) are the only thing you’ll be looking forward to on the big game day. Either way, we’ve provided two different ways you can style your sporting goods. Checkout the lineup!

Sport 1

This outfit is perfect for one of two people: the avid sports game goer or the completely clueless about sports but still goes-er. The signed ESPN shirt is perfect for these very different people. You can turn up to any sporting event and still be on par, considering that ESPN is a sports network that covers a wide variety of sports. The t-shirt is over-sized, but that can work in your favor if you roll up the sleeves and tuck it into whatever bottoms you decide to wear. We’ve decided to create a feminine look, playing with the indicative red ESPN logo. We’ve complemented the tee with a short red skirt and matching heels. You might even want to wear red lipstick. The cased baseball is optional. This outfit is perfect for any sporting occasion, ranging from baseball games to football viewing’s at your parents’ house.

This is for anyone that is a team player, but doesn’t want to look like one. At a game, you’ll probably see many people wearing your favorite player’s jersey. Make yourself stand out by incorporating your own style, or at least our style. We’ve combined this Laker’s jersey with high waisted flair jeans. You may also want to include a funky belt like this chained one. Whether or not you want to BYOB (bring your own basketball) is up to you.

Listen, after a whirlwind of travel for my special series on the millennial outlook, I’ve finally landed back in NYC and It’s time we have a heart-to-heart here my fashion-forward friends. The DOG DAYS of 90+ summer nights are here so why are you STILL wearing black right now? Stop, collaborate and listen thrifters. Today, we want to throwback to an old but beloved subject: FLORAL. Specifically Floral Prints and those Coachella inspired headbands!

So pull up an icy beverage as I guide you through this once again summery trend!

I’ll keep it short and sweet here. Anyone can wear floral: Plus size, petite, hourglasses, pear shape. Listen: You CAN do this. In small doses, it can sweeten up a tough look and in big ones, it will bring in you the sultry siren call of Italian bombshells like Sofia Loren.

Here’s some eye candy and tips for owning the divine:

Step #1: Grab some scissors, a Brooklyn bodega bouquet and a hot glue gun to make your own Lana inspired headband here

Step #2: Curate that gait! When you’ve got your garland game on pair it feminine floral with tough, and since dressing like Blossom is a no-no, pair Biker boots and put it under that floral sundress for instant tomboy beauty. Don’t be afraid to wear it as a belt, or adorable We Can Do It! Inspired head scarf.

Don’t fear the floral! Grab an old school kimono from your local Goodwill’s sleepwear section, add some fringe, maybe a vintage silk scarf, some wide sunglasses and hit the hot street! Even a little peek can be fun PLUS, It’s not just for girls, did you see that dandy’s swagger sock game 5th Avenue, if not, you got another thing coming!

Step #3: So in closing, keep your floral game FRESH, don’t be afraid of juicy, fun prints and allow yourself to have a little fun pairing light pieces during the sweltering weather.

Till next time, cuddle up to your nearest AC unit and stay chill!

Score an amazing #Goodwill find?! Know of an awesome window sale you’re going to be at? Let me know! And follow my fashion, food and travel treks on Twitter and Instagram @PlanetBrandee – till then, see you on the streets!!

Laurens Goodwill Gems: Summer Chic

It’s hard to look good when it’s this hot.  No matter how much effort you put in before you leave the house, the humidity makes your hair crazy (or completely flat) in minutes, and your makeup melts right off your face about five minutes after you apply it.

Need some fresh new footwear to get you through these sweltering summer months. Look no further—these cute cutout booties, spotted recently at a local Goodwill store—are the perfect way to give your worn-out summer wardrobe a serious style facelift.

In this weather, it makes sense to keep your beauty routine as simple and fresh-faced as possible. So, the only real room to play is with your wardrobe. Which is why I was so crazy-excited to find these fabulous, perfect-for-summer heels at my local Goodwill thrift shop this past week. The cool, laser-cut design and classic peep toe makes these adorable booties ideal for summer, spring, or early fall weather, and the distinctive detailing means they’re sure to catch a passerby’s eye. That fun, funky style, balanced by the traditional black leather material, means these stunning shoes are still easy to wear with just about any outfit, too.

Give sweet summer dresses some edge. Everyone loves a pretty summer sundress, but paired with equally girly, ladylike accessories, the overall look can become a bit too saccharine. So spruce up feminine florals and flowing dresses with a still-pretty but slightly edgier accessory, like this week’s find. These heels are definitely still feminine, so they won’t look out of place when paired with a super girly dress, but they’re not too over-the-top sugary-sweet. The black leather and chic cutout pattern give these shoes a funkier feel that will give your favorite hot-weather ensemble just the right amount of cool contrast.

Complement all of your fave, ultra-feminine summer dresses with this slightly funky, edgy pair of black leather heels with super-cool cutout detailing.

High Steppin’, High Fashion

Back-to-school time is here. It’s hard to believe, but that means that autumn is really right around the corner. To ready yourself for a fashionable switch to the fall season, start thinking about the few fantastic, go-with-everything fall pieces you’ll need to add new life to last year’s wardrobe pieces.

This week’s find – a totally fabulous pair of strappy leather sandals with a stunning cutout detail on the sides and saucy zipper from the toe to the top of the shoe – are just the kind of striking shoes you’ll need to perfect your favorite fall looks. Leather, while a bit heavy for the hot and sticky summer months, are perfect for when the weather starts to transition.

Step into a stylish new season with a pair of sassy, sexy black leather heels with fantastic details, like this pair’s cool cutouts and seriously flirty zipper up the front.

It’s time to transition. Sadly, summer won’t last forever, but that doesn’t mean that you have to pack up your flowing blouses and pretty sundresses just yet. At this time of the year, when the weather will continue to flip between hot and cool for weeks, a pair of high heels in a perfect-for-fall material with still-summery details, like cutouts, is just right for this tricky time of year. And for a perfect balance between warm and cool, put these haute heels in a classic and cool black on with a breezy, flowing dress in a much warmer hue, like this brilliant coral sundress with a satiny finish. To make sure it’s appropriate for any suddenly chilly temps or early fall breezes, top it with a simple, neutral cardigan that doesn’t take away from the brightly colored ensemble or the fabulously fun footwear.

To take your favorite summer pieces seamlessly into fall, add an extra layer on top of a lighter summer outfit and finish off the look with a pair of funky leather high heels, like the ones spotted this week at my local Goodwill thrift store.

Ultra-Relaxed, Ultra-Chic

Effortless summer ensembles. It’s easy to look great when you have a lot of time and effort to put into your outfits, but what about dressing for your hectic, everyday life?

Special occasions are one thing, but for those days when you’re just struggling to get out the door – especially in the midst of summer when it’s hot, humid and sticky – you can still look fantastic without a lot of work, by choosing an easy, airy ensemble and topping it off with an adorable hat that’s just right for the season, like the headpiece I spotted at my local Goodwill thrift shop this week. The light straw weave and festive blue pattern is so super summery, it’ll make you feel like you’re out on the beach or boardwalk, even when you’re just walking down a city street.

straw hatThis light, summer, super cool straw hat in a bright off-white and blue pattern is beachy, beautiful, and will lend any look a totally laid-back feel.

A tremendous topper will finish off any. For the most amazing beach- or brunch-ready look, start with a simple, relaxed, and easy-to-wear one-piece is a light, silky, airy fabric, like the one pictured here. Though it’s black, the flowing fabric, sheer sides and wide leg on this jumper make it look and feel incredibly comfortable and hassle-free – just like all your summer outfits should be. For an even more obviously summer look, choose a romper or jumpsuit in a vibrant floral pattern or bright color. Paired with a metallic sandal and this easy, breezy hat, you’ve instantly got a stylish but totally seasonally appropriate look – all put together in about 5 seconds flat.

black romperFor an insanely quick, pretty, and perfect-for-summer style, try throwing on an easy, flowing one-piece ensemble with a favorite straw hat – like the one I came across this week and my local Goodwill – and you’re good to go in no time!

Perfect Peek-a-Boo Heels

Hang onto summer with a super seasonal, feminine pair of shoes. It’s August somehow already, which means there’s only a few short, precious weeks left in the summer, and only a few weeks left to enjoy your favorite pieces in your warm-weather wardrobe.

This week’s Goodwill find is an adorable pair of blue-and-white striped shoes that are all-out girly, and perfect for the end of the summer season. The bright blue and white color palette looks nautical, but the high heel, strappy styling, and oh-so-pretty bow over the toe makes these shoes look super feminine. The platform gives these shoes some serious height, but keeps them comfortable enough to walk around in, whether you’re wearing them for work or play.

blue and white striped heelsThese flirty, feminine heels in a bright blue-and-white striped pattern are perfect for the end of the warm-weather season, and darling enough to dress up nearly any summer ensemble.

Pretty up your transitional wardrobe. For the end of the summer, and even through the beginning of fall, we all want to hang onto those warm-weather looks as long as possible. Luckily, you can wear a pretty, nautically inspired pair of high heels like this one through the hottest months of the year and on into the chillier fall season. Wear them now with a gorgeous, vibrantly colored dress, like the brilliant blue one pictured here. In a light, airy fabric and loose-fitting cut, it’s an ideal outfit for the hot, humid end of summer. But as August moves into September, the days start to get shorter, and the temps begin to grow cooler, you can still easily pair a perfectly ladylike and polished pair of heels like this one with a classic, all-around-flattering piece like a pair of tailored cigarette pants and a timeless white tee-shirt.

royal blue frockWhile we all want to hang onto the end of summer as long as possible, you can take a little piece of summer with you well into the fall and the cooler season with a pair of darling, brightly colored heels like this one, spotted this week at my local Goodwill thrift shop.
