Easy Fall Wardrobe Transitioning Tips

Ok, so it’s officially fall.

I couldn’t wait to break out this fluffy sweater I thrifted while visiting Buffalo. Cozy sweaters are the best for crisp fall days that move into cold nights. What’s the most fun about this season is the fact that you can layer lightly without feeling like a bundled up snowman (yes, those days are near but we won’t really speak about that yet). I wanted to share some of my easy pro-tips for transitioning outfits this fall. We sometimes don’t know what to wear when we get up in the morning. The temps are low but can get warmer later in the day. THAT can get annoying, especially if you decided to wear a heavy sweater. The solution to your troubles is LAYERING. Layering is not only fashionable but it can be extremely functional. Did I mention you should layer?

Pro Tip 1: Wear lighter layers for easy removal. You don’t want to bulk up. It’s not necessary right now. Enjoy the weather and think light layers. So if you’re still loving that lacey tank from this summer- keep it in rotation but pair it with a cardigan for colder mornings.

Pro Tip 2: Make sure the pieces work together and separately. Think, “If I remove my sweater or jacket, will this outfit still make sense?”

Pro Tip 3: Accessorize. I always add this to any styling post. Fall colors can be a bit drab sometimes. Some colors can be rich but if you find yourself sticking to neutrals, jazz it up with something embellished. Throw an oversized hat on and it will take any outfit to the next level.

My final tip is think outside the box and bend some of those unwritten fashion rules. Trust me, it’s fun! Until next time!

A Touch of Pink with TheFabJunkie

Pink Is Always A Good Idea

Hey Loves!
Thrifting ain’t easy. Just kidding, it’s not hard at all. I consider myself a master of thrift. I love walking around my favorite Goodwill store and scanning for gems.  I was lucky to find a MAJOR deal when I was hanging out at the Goodwill Store on 14th street awhile back. I wasn’t expecting to grab anything but I found the cutest pair of sneakers and they were the perfect price. What’s the perfect price you ask? Anything under $10. When you find a deal for under 10 bucks, how do you talk yourself out of it? I sure as heck can’t talk my brain out of it. I found the sneakers and yes they were a little worn in and yea they had a few marks on them but boy oh boy was I in love with deal. That’s what’s so great about thrift stores, you can’t go wrong with the prices.
It was the middle of August so I knew I would get a few summer days out of them. What I love about the sneakers is they are the perfect shade of pink. This week is calling for the end of summer, I know, super sad- But what better way to say bye then wearing my favorite pair of cut-offs and the perfect pair of $6 sneaks? SO before I take my first sip of those infamous pumpkin spice lattes, I want to enjoy the closing of those sweet summer days with my favorite thing, denim cut-offs and sneakers. These sneakers are really easy to style and comfy. Check out my look.

Warm Things: This Week on Inside the Prop Closet

With autumnal chill coming, it’s important to get snuggle-ready. For me, any days with weather under 70 degrees is a test of survival. I really, really don’t like being cold. Shawls, scarves, and hats are my go-to companions, there to reassure my goose bumps and chattering teeth that everything will be OK.

Thrifted Tunes: This Week on Inside the Prop Closet

Thrifted Tunes

image1

I’m a major music lover – always have been, always will. There doesn’t seem to be a genre that I haven’t fallen in love with some aspect of. Country, rock, hip hop, dance, gospel: There’s a place for it all on my playlist.

Throughout the years, I’ve found thrift stores to be go-to places for great music, and have discovered sounds I may not have heard otherwise. Most of my thrifted music is on CDs, but I have a vintage record player that needs repair. I’d love to make good use of that with thrifted 45s at some point, too.

When looking for great music at a thrift store, I’ve got two key tips:

1). Always open up CD cases to check for scratches, or pull a record out of its sleeve, before you make the buy. Sometimes, you’ll discover that a CD is missing altogether, or the wrong CD is in the case. Double-checking these things ensures that your purchase is in good shape for the listening experience you’re hoping for.

2). Judge things by their cover. When it comes to music you’re unfamiliar with, this is OK. Don’t limit yourself to the names you know. Instead, think about what sonic landscapes could be waiting for you inside an intriguing, mysterious album cover. They often set an appropriate scene for great tunes.

Most of the CDs I’ve purchased at thrift stores were less than two dollars, but good music lasts a lifetime. So tell me: What tunes have you discovered at your nearest Goodwill?

Discovering Day & Dusk: This Week on Inside the Prop Closet

A few days ago, I started experimenting with painting rocks that I found outside. It’s just a little color blocking with acrylic paint and painter’s tape, but I love the results. Though an incredibly simple concept, there’s a poem in the process somewhere – in Mother Nature being dipped in black. I don’t have the words just yet. Maybe they’ll come later. Or maybe they’ll be given to someone else. Maybe to you?
