Finding the right outfit to wear on your first day at work can be a daunting task. If you’ve never had a job before, or have a disability, it can be especially difficult. Well, Goodwill’s here to help!
In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey has teamed up with the New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities to stage a fashion show and seminar on what outfits are most appropriate for people to wear in their chosen career.
The show will be styled by 5 well-known fashion bloggers at Goodwill’s East Harlem Store today starting at 5:30pm! You can RSVP by contacting (646)-576-3485 or JPOYERD@cityhall.nyc.gov (please note: you must have a reservation to attend).
Models participating in Disability Mentoring Day (DMD)* (an annual event that pairs students and job seekers with disabilities with mentors to help them explore career opportunities) will appear in a runway show wearing outfits selected by the bloggers from the merchandise in local Goodwill Stores. Models will be able to keep their outfits after the show to wear for interviews or on the job.
Thank you all for your support! After all, who knows – your most recent donation could empower a person to score the job of her dreams!

To start the Boutique Banner ball rolling, here are a few Boutique photos that our Goodwill team snapped at last Wednesday’s event… Enjoy!:
Holy moly – the Goodwill Greenwich Village Boutique is open and it is fantastic! Were you able to make it to yesterday’s debut? If so, comment & tell us your finds! We took so many photos of Goodwill gems that we’ll need at least another day before we can post them (our style minds are still too hyper from yesterday’s bounty) – in the meantime, though, we have a GOODWILL CHALLENGE for you…
We need to replace the banner image on this blog with one from the Goodwill Greenwich Village Boutique – and we want YOU to show us what the new one should be. Share your photo entries taken from the Boutique with us over on Facebook and Twitter by May 15, 2011. The winner will to have their photo (along with a superimposed photo credit and a blog post all about your crazy impressive fashion photography skills) up on our blog for through the end of summer.
We love our fans. You guys make our day – and one of the coolest things about this blog, our Facebook and our Twitter, is that we get to hear from you and see how you’ve been sharing the Goodwill. We’ve had a few really impressive fan posts on our Facebook this summer, and so we thought we’d do our part in sharing the Goodwill even further. Here is a look at what your fellow fans are up to:
ReFashionista: It’s incredible to see what Jillian can create out of the most unlikely fashion picks. While there’s plenty of cute clothes at your local Goodwill, she makes a great case for always starting with the ugliest duckling. Time after time, with her creative eye and seamstress skill, those once-questionable finds are transformed into swans.
