Uber + Goodwill Part Deux

Uber and Goodwill-01We are excited to announce once again Uber and Goodwill have teamed up! Tomorrow, November 25, you can request an Uber SUV to come and pick up your gently used clothing between 2pm and 8pm. The Uber driver will drop off your donation to a local Goodwill at no cost to you.

Here is how it works:

1. Download the Uber app (Android, iPhone, Blackberry)

2. Between the hours of 2pm and 8pm tomorrow select the GIVE option on the bottom of the screen.

3. Once your driver is confirmed, you will see an ETA for their arrival. Have your donations bagged up and ready.

4. Once your driver has arrived, you will receive a text message confirmation and bring your bags to the car.

Please Note: Pickups will only be available in Manhattan. We expect high demand since it is the start of the giving season so please be patient!

To request a tax receipt, email donations.department@goodwillny.org with the following and we will be happy to send a receipt:

Name
Address
Phone number
Date of pickup
Location of pickup (if your address, just say that)
Number bags
Itemized list of donations

3 Ways to Give Back (and feel good) This Summer

3 Ways to Give Back This Summer

The weather is warmer, skies are brighter and you should be feeling good because its the summer time. Well-being affects every aspect of our lives so we should make an effort to participate in activities that will help to foster positive feel good vibes. Doing something to give back is always a good idea so here are three ways you can make a difference.

1. Organize a Party for Charity
What is summer without a good party? Throw a party or BBQ in honor of giving and spreading love for an organization of your choice. You could charge a small admission fee, host a raffle, a bake sale or even an auction to raise money all while having a good time with your friends and family. It’s a win-win!

2. Volunteer
While donating towards a charity is always a good thing it can feel even better to see the results of your efforts in person by giving of your time to volunteer. You will feel proud of yourself for doing something to help your community. Make sure that when volunteering that you’re putting your time towards something you are passionate about. It will help you to be more motivated and give you a greater sense of purpose from doing so.

3. Donate to Goodwill
Organizations like Goodwill need our donations to keep their efforts going strong. Your donation will help support programs and initiatives by Goodwill and keep unwanted items from piling up in landfills. It also feels really good to clean out and de-clutter your space plus your donations are tax deductible!

Learn more about donating to Goodwill here.

How do you give back?

xoxo

Spring: A Season of Change and Renewal

Spring is a season of change, when the cold, grey cast of winter gets shook off in a colorful flurry of cherry blossom pinks, vivid violets and daffodil yellows. And like any good New Yorker accustomed to the shift, I must embrace the change too. It’s with a bitter sweet heart I’ve move onto a new, exciting role and say goodbye to the beautiful 72nd Street boutique. Although I am no longer a certifiable “Goodwill Insider”, fear not! I’m still here to keep you plugged into THE best in thrift, fashion and NYC lifestyle.

I’ll use this blog to take a retrospective look back at the fun fashion, events and journeys I’ve had supporting the amazing work Goodwill does each and everyday. Most recently, I was a part of a video segment which was shot on location at our Upper West Side 72nd Street boutique store in partnership with ReUseNYC and NY State. As you can see from the photos, having the chance to speak on camera in support of continuing sustainable education was wonderful, as was the crew who came to shoot. They met with all of our staff and took a great interest in how recycling and re-purposing the items we have donated to us allows us to keep the mission and programs at Goodwill going strong.

Each and everyday through staff, friends and those who participate and donate to Goodwill, I’ve had a chance to interact, learn and grow through the Goodwill mission. Whether spearheading the painting of a youth group mural, fun with Film Biz Recycling, local charities or the NYRR Marathon, it’s easy to get busy and forget that. But for that opportunity given, being grateful is an understatement. The memories and friendships will stay with me for a long long time, but even more so, so will this blog! Because now that my evenings and weekends are jostling for the lead, I hope you know this means MAJOR thrifting episode REVIVAL. On the 3rd Monday of each month I’ll be bringing you the best finds, killer digi lookbooks and absolutely mind blowing thrifting expeditions. Goodwill Shopping so good, you’ll need a full day to recover!

From the runway to the highway I’ll be interviewing designers and people who love not only Goodwill, but the joy of sustainable fashion and the thrill of the thrift. So join me next month when I interview one of the finest vintage thrifters you may recognize from the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island, one of the loveliest vintage lovers in all of Manhattan, but shhh, for now, we’ll keep it our secret! So get excited to shop and enjoy the photos of all of those who made my journey at Goodwill so incredible.

Till next time, join me as I go from runway to highway in my adventurous quest all for the thrill of the thrift!

Where Can I Donate My Car? At Goodwill, Of Course!

We all know Goodwill is great for your no-longer-needed clothing and household items, but for your no-longer-needed cars? You betcha!

Time for a new car - or no car at all? We'd be happy to accept your no-longer-needed vehicle. You'll get a tax receipt and incredible karma. We'll get a chance to change lives.
