Good Look Guy Finds: Nifty, Thrifty, and Always Under $50

Old school was never so cool

After the long and relaxing Labor Day weekend, we are ready to get back to work while others are ready for school! Today, we go back to our Upper West Side boutique to meet Charles, assistant manager of our 72nd Street boutique.

This month, our Good Look Guy exemplifies the very best our Goodwill stores and boutiques offer in fashion sense while still saving your hard-earned cents.

From the pool to school, the care free days segue seamlessly into more serious fall fashion under the tutelage of debonair, Assistant Manager Charles. Here he’s the epitome of head to toe professionalism with duds that do double duty from desk to dusk.

Metro males will want to emulate Charles’ standout, easy elegance, which was evident as soon as he joined the Goodwill NYNJ team two summers ago. Who could resist his passion for fashion? Or his great eye and innate color sense, so apparent when he enters any place, even a dimly lit room?

Now we turn the focus on this gifted shutterbug who can transform even the most style-averse man. With the simple pairing of exquisite Burberry and Brooks Brothers pieces, any masculine chassis is reborn as classy. Investment dressing is at your frugal fingertips. Just follow his lead and appropriate his impeccable taste for dapper additions that are well within your wallet and wardrobe space.

With Charles as your mentor, have a September to remember and one that makes every guy look that much smarter.

“I enjoy photographing people wearing formal attire. I’m keenly aware of what colors pop on camera, “says Charles. “For family portraits, I make sure there is cohesiveness in the color of the clothes they wear.”

Charles is the Assistant Manager of Goodwill’s 72nd Street boutique. He joined Goodwill NYNJ in August 2013. Charles loves fashion and is passionate about photography. He hopes to open his own photography studio some day.

It’s summer! School’s out, the sun’s out, and everyone wants to go out… to the ball game. It is prime sports season and whether it’s your own freewill or not, you will most likely find yourself watching a game. For fans, sporting events can be a joyous occasion. The suspense of the game and the rigor of the crowd are what you wait for all year. You’re in your element. However, if you’re anything but a sports fan, you’re in your worst nightmare. The suspense of the game is like watching paint dry and the rigor of the crowd scares you. Whether you love or despise the game, you still want to look your best. That can be hard to do when you’re trying to dress for the sporting occasion. Over-sized t-shirts and unisex jerseys are tricky to feel your absolute best in. If you’re a sports fan, you won’t be able to enjoy the game as much as you would if you don’t feel confident in your attire. If you’re anything but a sports fan, sometimes your outfit (and the food) are the only thing you’ll be looking forward to on the big game day. Either way, we’ve provided two different ways you can style your sporting goods. Checkout the lineup!

Sport 1

This outfit is perfect for one of two people: the avid sports game goer or the completely clueless about sports but still goes-er. The signed ESPN shirt is perfect for these very different people. You can turn up to any sporting event and still be on par, considering that ESPN is a sports network that covers a wide variety of sports. The t-shirt is over-sized, but that can work in your favor if you roll up the sleeves and tuck it into whatever bottoms you decide to wear. We’ve decided to create a feminine look, playing with the indicative red ESPN logo. We’ve complemented the tee with a short red skirt and matching heels. You might even want to wear red lipstick. The cased baseball is optional. This outfit is perfect for any sporting occasion, ranging from baseball games to football viewing’s at your parents’ house.

This is for anyone that is a team player, but doesn’t want to look like one. At a game, you’ll probably see many people wearing your favorite player’s jersey. Make yourself stand out by incorporating your own style, or at least our style. We’ve combined this Laker’s jersey with high waisted flair jeans. You may also want to include a funky belt like this chained one. Whether or not you want to BYOB (bring your own basketball) is up to you.

Less Tricks, More Treats

Happy Halloween! Halloween has always been our favorite holiday. We use it as an excuse to dress and go out, socialize with our neighbors and put a big smile on every kid’s face. Secretly, it’s also a time for us to eat tons of candy. Secretly. Without letting anyone else know.

Things should be scary on the night October 31st. What shouldn’t be scary is your credit card bill next month.

You'd look a little pale, too, surrounded by the shocking, jaw-dropping deals at Goodwill Washington Heights.

So, here’s the question: how can you come up with a screaming great look in Manhattan – the world’s center of creative and conspicuous consumer consumption? We were determined so we set a goal: no matter what, we weren’t going to spend more than $10 this year on our Halloween costume.

Clever as we are, then, we headed right up to  Goodwill’s newly renovated Washington Heights store at 512 181st St. (near Amsterdam Ave.) to sneak a peek at some wallet-friendly finds.

A Fashion Week Even Your Wallet Will Love

Fashion Week – such a flurry of excitement and style in the New York and New Jersey area! Just ride the subway, turn on the TV, or hop on the internet and you’re surrounded by beautiful women, impeccable men, the highest stilettos, and the lowest necklines. Designers are pulling out all the stops, and in New York and New Jersey, their efforts most certainly show.

What's Black, White and Read all over? Headlines about how good you look this Fashion Week, courtesy of Goodwill.

Now, we love looking good as much as anyone. Actually, we may love it even more than most, surrounding ourselves in hard-to-find designer clothes, coveted brand names, and all the vintage styles. But you know what we love even more than looking fabulous? Doing good while we’re looking good – and spending very, very, very little while doing it. So, in honor of this week’s Fashion festivities, we’re going to show you our top style picks at our chic Chelsea store (profiled recently in The New York Times’ “Look Whose Shopping Goodwill”) – located right near countless boutiques and, even better, a slew of fashion design schools.

There's a different pair of designer shoes for every fashion show this week - and at Goodwill's prices, you may never have to choose between platforms and pumps, or sandals and slingbacks, again!
