Goodwill Gems: A Classic and Classy Bag

Digging for Goodwill Gold

It’s Monday once again, dear friends (sigh …). But luckily, that means it’s time for me to share my latest and greatest #GoodwillGems with you all!

This week’s incredible find came from our Van Dam outlet location in Long Island City, Queens. It’s a bit different than many of the other Goodwill stores around the city — you have to do some digging through the almost daunting number of large bins full of clothing and accessories, but that little bit of extra work to find great pieces is SO worth it! Because all those goodies here are sold not as individual items but BY THE POUND! It’s possibly the best deal you can get on great clothes and cute accessories, and if you’ve never made the trip out to LIC to check it out, now is the time!

My latest fantastic find is a chic carryall bag that’s super versatile and easy to style — and you all know that is just about my FAVE kind of accessory in existence! It’s pretty impossible not to love a piece like this one, with incredibly classic, clean lines, and very glam (but subtle) gold detailing, like the zipper on the front. This purse is a real-deal Christian Siriano (and who didn’t absolutely adore him on Project Runway way back in the day?!). I got super excited when I spotted it at the outlet store, because not only could I get an insanely good deal on it, but this designer handbag was in GREAT condition and I know will last me for years (and years … and years) to come!

A real leather, designer handbag at next to nothing?! Yup, I spotted it recently at our Van Dam outlet location, where incredible deals abound!

SO … what to wear with such an amazing bag? The answer is simple, really: EVERYTHING! There’s really nothing you can NOT pair with this near-perfect accessory — and to prove it, I’m going to put together what is just about the simplest outfit of all time to pair with it.

Why, you ask?

It’s an excellent question, but one I think, my thrifty and forward-thinking fashionistas, you probably already know the answer to. Basic doesn’t have to be boring — in fact, if you look at fabulous and famous designers, like Christian Siriano or any of your other faves, you’ll probably notice that they often wear a lot of clean lines, simple but flattering shapes, and lots and lots of black. These people have incredible talent, can design anything they would ever want to wear, and have the money to purchase beautiful, brand new clothes all the time, but they often still stick to what’s classic and always looks good on them. Basic but beautiful, polished and figure-flattering never goes out of style, NEVER, and that’s what I’ve gone for here with my form-fitting black pants and easy, neutral tee with a low scoop neck that accentuates my girlish curves. It’s an ensemble that can easily be worn anywhere and everywhere and doesn’t look like I’m trying too hard at all, but it’s also an outfit that highlights what I’ve got, hides what I don’t, and makes me feel fabulous and confident — which is exactly what a great outfit SHOULD do!
