LIVE from the overstuffed closets of New York City!
In our last issue we highlighted the brilliant work of TED/Google Talks featured and world renown organizer Marie Kondo who encourages us to only keep those items which “Spark Joy!”. We shed some closet-weight and feel eons better in our thriftologic organizing! As we wind down this series on learning how to clean up, clear out and stay organized in 2016, we’re hoping you’re looking around thinking “this FEELS better!” Virtual high five!
Needless to say, our bonus panel is circling back to this Kondo powerhouse with more fab suggestions on the one thing I know many New Yorkers struggle with: BOOKS.
Maybe you’re an ex actor with shelves upon shelves of Uta Hagen books, 4 copies of Audition and a myriad of Music Theatre folder stuffed with notes and old scripts. Could you be an art student who still holds onto old projects from Underwater Basket Weaving 101? Either way, the shelves are littered with things that aren’t necessary, functional, or at this point, of any value to you. So grab a Lavazza and roll up your sleeves, we’re going to watch the Mater of Tidying up on tackle that magically growing pile of books you’ve been hoarding and make it into something beautiful.
Now tell me that wasn’t dreamy!? She’s a sweetheart with an infectious smile and deft at mastering the little things that add up in a big way and that bouncy music is terrific to dust to, no?
And if that’s not enough to unleash your inner organizer, then check out this extra snippet we came across. It covers the KonMari Method of folding. For you new to the world of Kondo, the KonMari Method is the act of ultra simplifying the way you fold everything – from socks, t-shirts to pants. It’s fast, and once learned, a time and space saver. For those who shop Goodwill and thrift like crazy on the regular, this sort of tips and tools are valuable ways to avoid having your workspace and room look like the donation bin!
Check out this video series that walks you through it step by step and if you’re feeling like some Gwenyth today, look for this Goop tutorial that guides you well on your way to achieving Kondo Nirvana.
