The holidays are over. Womp, womp. We’re well into January now, and the season of (often short-lived) resolutions, but that doesn’t mean it’s a time to be down in the dumps – especially when it comes to fashion.
January is actually the perfect time to give your closet a clean, get rid of all that old stuff that doesn’t fit or that you no longer wear, and start the year off fresh and fabulous. And of course, after you give your wardrobe a good sweep and discard all those pieces you no longer need, you’ll have plenty of space for a few new – very select – purchases. Keep the new pieces to a minimum – you just did all that hard work, after all – but go ahead and get a few new pieces to spruce up the well-worn, well-loved items you’ve still got – preferably, of course, new pieces that you’ll wear over and over again throughout the next year.
I was super pumped to find this simple, but oh-so-bright and fun belt at my local Goodwill thrift recently. It’s an accessory that can be worn nearly every day to bring a fresh burst of color to some of my winter wardrobe standbys – during a recent cleanout of my own closet, I’ve realized that I own a lot of gray, friends – like A LOT a lot. So a fun, whimsical accessory like this vibrant pink belt now feels like a must-have piece – it’s such an easy way to add a little boldness and eye-catching color to an otherwise drab winter look.
Pop it on with go-to pieces. All those gray wardrobe go-to pieces I just mentioned? Well, this is one of them – a cozy knit gray dress with loose three-quarter sleeves and a sassy scoop neck – also, I might add, picked up at a thrift store a couple of years ago, and still one of my favorite things to wear! It’s perfect for chilly (but not totally frigid) winter days when you just want to throw something on with a comfy pair of boots and go, but still look like you put some effort into your attire. But it is, of course, gray – gray all over – and all that monochrome can start to feel a bit boring as the winter wears on and on. So, jazz up a favorite dress or other all-black or gray ensemble with a bright belt, like the one I found at my neighborhood thrift shop. It takes only seconds to pop it on over your existing outfit, but makes a huge difference in the overall look and feel of it – that spot of bright color will instantly lift your mood (and make your waist look extra tiny by cinching in all that extra fabric) – a win-win, for sure!
