Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 4.26.03 PMAnother year, another Fashion Week! From runways filled with yoga teachers to the zany backstage antics, I’m strapped into the rocket pack that is #NYFW. I hope you’ve kept your best outfits at the ready for this awesome combination of big brands and street style moments.

So jump on board the crazy train with me and let’s get into this new 2-part @PlanetBrandee series on Fashion Week here in New York City!

According to a 2012 analysis by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, CFDA reports some comprehensive stats: “New York Fashion Week’s yearly economic impact includes about $547 million in direct visitor spending. For a little relevance, CFDA says “that’s more than the 2014 Super Bowl, the New York City Marathon and the two-week U.S. Open tennis tournament. Over 900 fashion companies have their headquarters in New York City. Of the 180,000 jobs here, 16,000 are in manufacturing and growing. In total, the New York industry fashion pays about $11 billion in wages, generating nearly $2 billion in tax revenue each year.” And a lot of that highlights the fact that this city is a driving epicenter for this spectacular event.

“New York leads the way for the American fashion industry,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb. “It is the major engine behind the $350 billion apparel Industry that employs 4 million workers, which is 3 million more than the car manufacturers – – and more than the U.S. video game industry, fast food industry, and beverage industry.” Incredible stats that not only show the work here has long term impact, but also is a source for local communities as well.

With a growing 250,000+ people attending Fashion Week in New York City on the average, pumping over millions of dollars into the local economy with hotels, fabulous parties and the sheer model mania that takes over the city in a storm of couture fever, it can be overwhelming. But fear not, here we have some ah, more budgeted ideas for street style and how to show up with your A-game even if you don’t have a backstage pass like yours truly!

One of the first places we’ll be heading is to the ultra fun Refinery 29 destination in Brooklyn! Set in a Brooklyn warehouse, their “creation spans across (you guessed it) 29 individual rooms, each curated by a hand-picked selection of our favorite partners and artists. According to R29 be sure to “look out for a polka-dotted confetti tornado celebrating Minnie Mouse, an ode to literary heroines created with Nordstrom Rack, an Old Navy DIY denim workshop, a PUMA and SIX:02 stop-motion projection project, and a mysterious “cabinet of curiosities” made with Fossil.” All of which is open to any fashionista who braces those Jeffrey Campbell wedges with a Brooklyn subway ride.

And also, feel free to literally stand the streets outside the event itself and take in the insanity that is the creative style explosion! From sequins to Dolce inspired tiaras, it’s a hot, beautiful mess worth Instagramming like a champ.

So where will you go? And more importantly, what Goodwill gem will you wear?! Whether it’s the Lauren Conrad obsessed, or the Marc Jacobs sequins madness from this week, get your grind on and join me next week as I continue this 2 part NYFW special!
