This Is How You Wear Shorts to Work
Summer is quickly drawing to a close. Nights, at least, are getting cooler and breezier (thank goodness!), the sun is starting to set a little earlier, and September is only a few weeks away. But the warm weather and carefree, sunny days aren’t entirely over yet—which is why I fully support you living up these last summer days to the fullest, in every small way that you can!
Get fun, playful, glam. And yes, it is possible to find pieces that will work with your summer wardrobe and that still encompass all of those amazing attributes at once. This week’s stunning find is a pair of vintage-inspired earrings that make costume jewelry look way cooler and more gorgeous than you’ve ever imagined that it could. These shimmering rhinestone and faux-gem earrings can add some much-needed sparkle to your more chic summer looks, but the soft grey and clear stones will easily pair with your favorite fall and winter pieces, too, so you can wear these beauties all year long! The classy vintage look will instantly add a bit of retro, ladylike glam to outfit and take otherwise basic items to the next level.
Dress for the heat. Enjoy the end of summer fashion by getting the most out of your warm-weather pieces during this last month—and wear your shorts to work! Yes, many offices are allowing slightly more casual (or just trendier) attire, and that means that there is a work-appropriate way to work those shorts. The key to pulling it off? Pair tailored, well-fitting shorts with a dressier top and accessories to keep your whole ensemble looking classy and elegant, no matter the length of your bottoms. Choosing a well-cut pair of shorts without any fading, discoloration, fraying or other distressed features will ensure they look suitable for the office, but as long as they fit those criteria (and you’re in a place that lets you wear jeans), you can still go with a more casual fabric like denim, as I’ve done here. On top, I’ve chosen a silky, neutral shell and loose-fitting, open-front blouse on top. Both pieces are in light, airy, refined fabrics and the second blouse—which I’m using almost like a cardigan here—could also be belted to give it a more svelte and fitted feel. Popping on one stunning, attention-grabbing accessory, like my newly-found and very glamorous earrings, is all that’s needed to take this simply and pretty outfit to a place that feels fabulously sophisticated and chic, with minimal effort.
