Bold, Crazy Color

It’s time to wake up your wardrobe.

Bring energy back into old clothes and beloved vintage pieces with a brilliant accessory choice, like these attention-grabbing shoes spotted this week at my local Goodwill thrift shop.

These striped wedges are a little on the loud side, but in the best possible way. The graphic print contains a whole multitude of deep, flattering hues and a few strips of classic black to balance out all the brightness and provide much-needed contrast. The soft cloth upper and closed, rounded toe make these shoes suitable for just about any season – they’ll keep your feet warm in fall and early spring, when there’s still an icy chill in the air, but they’re also breathable enough to wear in the heart of summer.

bold graphic wedges
Brilliant, graphic, and bold, these striking wedges are accessories worth grabbing to pair with all of your favorite spring and summer pieces.

With heels this daring, keeping the rest of your outfit simple is key.

For the rest of my ensemble here, I’ve chosen deep, more subdued hues, like the rich emerald green of this classic sweater. Long but slightly fitted, this sweater hugs curves in all the right places and manages to be flattering without being revealing or brash in any way. Simple gray pants – also form fitting, but not too terribly tight – make a solid base on which to build my surprisingly bold look. This outfit really is all about the shoes – the soft, solid colors and classic shapes make the perfect backdrop for this pair of brilliant, totally eye-catching shoes, which if paired with another print or super loud color choice, would probably feel a bit overwhelming rather than cool, fun, and carefree.

These shoes are the perfect thing to liven up an otherwise tired or basic winter ensemble, like this one, and give it a real burst of personality and fun flair.

Spring is About to POP!

We’ve finally turned a corner.

The temperatures have regularly climbed above freezing for the last week or so (hooray!), and it feels like it’s truly time to welcome spring (even though I’ve mentally already been there for about a month).

And to welcome spring in style, I’ve chosen pieces this week that are all about color! This week’s Goodwill gem is a daring—but super fun and playful—neon yellow belt. Since it’s very skinny, the in-your-face color comes off as cool and cute rather than overwhelming—it’s just one little strip of seriously bright accessorizing that will really wake up any outfit.

neon yellow beltTotally simple but still bold enough to make a statement, this thin, neon yellow belt is nothing but fun.

Keep the rest of your outfit simple, too.

The key with such a bright and attention-grabbing accessory is to pair it with basic pieces and other solid colors to keep the whole ensemble from feeling too busy (or just too, too much). You could definitely throw on something effortless and classic, like your favorite black pants and a solid tee or sweater in another neutral hue like white or gray. But here, I’ve still paired it with another vibrant color—and I think I’ve managed to pull it off because the item I’ve chosen (a dress in a lovely purple) is solid—there’s no big, loud pattern fighting the neon for attention. The purple shift, thought still bright, is slightly more subdued than the yellow and is also in a classic shape with clean lines, making it the perfect style partner for my eye-catching new accessory.

plum dressBright, bold, and fresh, this new spring ensemble—featuring my fabulous new neon yellow belt—is as cheerful and sunny as spring itself.

Springing to a Fresh Start

Classic, Casual Elegance

It’s finally starting to feel like spring!

We’ve done daylight savings time, and the temperatures have been above freezing for several days in a row – here in the Tri-state area, it’s starting to feel a lot like springtime (and just in time, too). And though it may not be time to pack up all of your sweaters just yet, it is time to start working in some lighter layers and less heavy pieces.

This week’s Goodwill gem, a darling little purse in a timeless style and nude hue, is just the right kind of piece to be pairing with your lighter spring wardrobe additions. Its petite size and simple lines gives it an elegant and ladylike look, while the light beige tone will be lovely next to bright, bold spring and summer colors, like blush pinks, sunshiny yellows, and lively greens.

nude handbag Simple, sophisticated, and just right for spring, this adorable thrift store find will add a graceful flair to all of your fresh looks for the season.

Keep it chic.

This stunning nude handbag will look fantastic next to an array of vibrant colors, but it will also look equally elegant when paired with other neutral, go-to pieces in your wardrobe. For a totally sophisticated (but entirely effortless) casual look that will have you channeling your French girl charm, try stepping out in your favorite pair of slim-fitting jeans and a loosely fitted tee in white and navy stripes (or in another classic and neutral combo, like black and white). This pretty purse, in its nude hue, is still different enough from the darker, bolder pattern of the top to stand out and make a statement – an extremely classy and understated one.

white and black striped topA refined accessory find – like this week’s gem – will have you looking instantly polished and completely chic the second you put it on, no matter what you choose to pair it with.
