Today is National Wear Red Day

NHLBI THT LOGO Time to break out those red dresses, shirts, accessories or maybe even dye your hair!

Today is National Wear Red Day. What is that you may ask? It is a day dedicated to raising awareness of heart disease in women. The Heart Truth® created the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 to deliver an urgent wakeup call to American women.

Nearly 1 in 3 American women have high blood pressure.

80 percent of women ages 40 to 60 have one or more risk factor for heart disease. The infographics below explain key modifiable risk factors—smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight or obese, physical inactivity, and diabetes or prediabetes—and steps women can take to protect their heart health.

Don’t forget to have some fun while spreading the word. Check out the Red Dress Collection 2015 fashion show! It will be livestreamed from New York tonight at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Click here to get a reminder of when the show starts.
