Play It Cool

Comfy is the name of the game these days.

It’s cold, and there’s no way around it – the only thing to do is bundle up in as many layers as possible. But – really and truly – all those thick layers don’t mean you can’t still look a little cool with a bit of smart accessorizing, of course.

This week’s Goodwill gem is an absolutely perfect mid-winter find. These lace-up booties are effortlessly cool, with a flat and comfortable sole and styling that plays on old-school military looks. The black leather has a slight metallic sheen to it, giving these otherwise masculine shoes a very distinctly feminine detail. The thin laces are delicate as well, ensuring these booties have a hint of ladylike grace, and don’t come off as all rough edge.

leather bootiesBorrow some ideas from the boys, and take old-fashioned practical styles to brand new heights of fashionable fun.

Keep it simple (but just a little sassy).

With a perfectly fun pair of booties like these that really walk the line between masculine and feminine, you can have a lot of fun with the outfits you choose to wear them with. Make a bold statement by putting these masculine shoes on with an extremely feminine ensemble, like a flowered dress, or go entirely the opposite route, and take your whole look from the guys, with a sleekly styled pair of trousers and a blazer. Here, I’ve decided to stick to the middle ground, and simply gone for something really relaxed and comfy that doesn’t immediately announce itself as way masculine or way feminine. The stretchy, fitted black pants are comfy, and certainly form-fitting enough to show off feminine curves, but not overly girly by any means. On top, another fitted piece in a bright, vibrant blue hue – the only detail on this top that keeps it from being entirely casual (and that makes it look a little more ladylike) is the bit of ruching – a simple detail that ends up really making this look stand out. With my new boots and cozy sweater on top for warmth, this outfit is good to go in no time at all.

royal blue top and black bottomsThis effortlessly cool look takes only a few pieces and mere minutes to put together, but with my brand new booties – in a standout style obviously borrowed from the boys – this laid-back outfit becomes an eye-catching ensemble.

PlanetBrandee LIVE from Las Vegas!

LIVE from Vegas title imageLOVE
ləv/
noun

1. a deep romantic or attachment to someone.
“it was love at first sight”
an intense feeling of deep affection.

synonyms: deep affection, fondness, tenderness, warmth, intimacy, attachment, endearment;
antonyms: hatred, indifference

When it comes to love, there’s a million and one copies, and truly, only one original. And frankly, whenever anyone asks me “What is love?” all I can imagine is the clip of Will Farrell and Kris Kattan breaking windows with their heads on SNL ala Night at the Roxbury.

There’s so many faces of love, people “love” pizza, maybe they “love” thrifting, and everyone knows I “love” an award winning crème brulle myself, but to define it, is that even possible? How do you scientifically quantify it? Truth is readers, I don’t think you can…I don’t think there’s a pie chart detailing that kind of data, so what can we do but follow our guts and let the adventure take us where we will go, with good people, strong hearts and genuine, truth finding friends whom we gladly have call us home!

Photo 2 Live from VegasSo right about two sentences ago, I find myself at JFK boarding a flight to VEGAS BABY! For that same elusive thing we just talked about: LOVE! Because two people I love very much are getting married there! Having had a pretty turbulent few months recently, I was not to thrilled my plane decided to do the same, but thankfully, after many a Louie CK moment, we landed safely and the LIVE from VEGAS BABY adventure could begin!

circus circusFrom the first big group get together, to dancing in the street like fools, old faces and a few new ones I was VERY happy to meet, the wedding was a raging success! A complete DIY affair any Goodwill shopper would love! Each person had their own style, from casual linen to maxed out Zara suit. I sported my Goodwill found silk pajamas in a traditional Natori print, with leopard booties and old world raw silk hair scarf. We can thank the fires of the Wynn casino for claiming it lol! My fabulous party goers all showed flair, from secondhand vintage, to gold flash tattoos, the stylemometer was HOT! Even more of a relief, there was no narcissistic selfies to deal with, only tons of laughing, dancing, love and friendship, and that my friends is better than ANY slot machine can serve up!

High RollerAs the sunset went down on our final day, our goodbyes began, and the long trek back to New York City loomed before a few of us like a gloomy cloud. But something else loomed too, the sweet feeling that a new beginning had been born, a new marriage, a new love, and above all, honest friendships born under the neon lights of the strip, and under the blazing Nevada sun.

zoltar pic 3Not to mention, Zoltar told me personally that my true love waited for me back in NYC…and as I boarded the plane and saw the Nevada desert span out from underneath my wings, glittering like gold, I thought, I feel thankful for these people, thankful for those I call friends, and above all thankful that when I open my door at night, there’s someone there who says the same about me and well, if that’s not love, then I don’t know what is.

So make 2015 the year you’re truthful and honest, full of genuine unselfish love! Give back, volunteer, it’s NOT all about you, it’s about those around who care and do good! So continue to join me as my journeys from runway to highway continue to fuel my search for the best food, fun and fashion the world can offer! Till February, see you on the streets!
