Is it hot in here? Now that we’ve hit Labor Day and the official end of summer, it seems like the weather would beg to differ (yet again). Though we’ve enjoyed some cooler, breezy summer days of late, the beginning of September looks to be pretty steamy in the Tri-State area, and I for one plan to take full advantage of the steamy, summery weather for as long as I possibly can.
Send summer off in style and dress fabulously, even in the midst of this hot, humid weather, with a few well-chosen pieces from your favorite local thrift shop. I hit the Goodwill store on Steinway in Astoria, Queens recently and came across a load of lovely, end-of-summer styles, including this week’s gorgeous gem, a faux snakeskin clutch in a totally fantastic shade of turquoise that reminds me sparkling ocean waves and happy beach days – and will help keep me in that laid-back, summertime mindset, even when the cooler fall weather finally strikes.
Channel your inner beach babe. Unfortunately, we can’t keep summer – with its long weekends and relaxed, sunny days – around forever. But even if the start of September means its time for you to head back to school or buckle down at work, you can still infuse your weekends with that fun, funky, summery flair. Here, I’ve chosen to pair my perfectly polished and fashionable new clutch with some tailored, formatting shorts in a classic black (to make those vibrant summer colors really pop) and a loose fitting, flowing top in a vivid graphic print. The beachy, turquoise hue of my new bag is also found in the fabric of the top, along with a few other gorgeous seasonal colors – a rich orange and bright pink so reminiscent of a summer sunset – and the darling clutch just pulls the whole casual (but supremely stylish) ensemble together.
End-of-summer dressing is an absolute cinch with classic pieces like curve-hugging black bottoms and vibrantly colored graphic print tops. An of-the-moment accessory, like the turquoise snakeskin clutch spotted this week at my local Goodwill shop, is the perfect unifying piece that ties this beautifully beachy look together in a snap.
