The Hidden Gems in Your Wardrobe

I like to believe that I always have something to wear. No matter what the occasion, I have a cool outfit that I’ll probably love (or so I’d like to think). I have a confession: I don’t think I am utilizing my wardrobe to the fullest, and I am not okay with it.

For a living I tell people what they should wear, how they should wear it and how to wear everything at least once. Sometimes, I feel I may be living a lie because I don’t get to wear everything I own. I too have my favorite pieces and develop a uniform of sorts, but it’s not for the reason you may think.

Honestly, I can be kind of lazy. Looking for something to wear can be stressful. Maybe it’s because I own too many clothes, or maybe it’s because I hate prepping, or maybe it’s both. I honestly have too much to wear. My closets, wardrobe racks and dressers overflow with pieces I can’t let go of because they haven’t had their moment.

That sequin dress will have its time as long as I stay within a certain weight. The day will come when it will come off that hanger, and like a phoenix that rises from the ashes (a.k.a. the back of my closet) that dress will give me affection, accolades and compliments for one night and I will feel great. But then, I’ll move on to the next piece.

Like many, I love to say “Oh, this old thing?” when someone gives me a compliment on my outfit. These compliments are better than compliments on my weight or anything else. When someone appreciates an item you’ve had for ages is like receiving a lifetime achievement award.

What do you have in your wardrobe that is “old as the hills” but still looks great? What items are you saving to pass on to your children? What article of clothing do you like pull out of the vaults? I have tons, and I think there’s nothing wrong with that!
