5 Tips for Battling the Winter BluesIt’s not uncommon for people to catch a case of the “winter blues” with days being shorter and more time being spent cooped up inside. All you probably want to do is stay in, cozy up in your pjs, and eat. However, just because its winter it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your time. These tips will help brighten up your cold winter days!

1. Get Some Sun
Lack of sunlight can cause people to feel depressed and not even know why! Similar to exercise, sunlight exposure releases neurotransmitters in the brain that affect mood. Try to spend a little more time outdoors. You can also try changing the light bulbs in your house to “full spectrum” bulbs, which mimic natural light.

2. Get a workout in!
Exercise will not only get you fit, but it will also help you to feel good! When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins known as “feel good chemicals” that help improve your mood. It’s a win-win!

3. Be bold!
Put on a bright colored sweater or lipstick and watch your mood and the mood of those around you cheer up a bit!

4. Treat Yourself.
Plan something that is exciting to you that you can look forward to. It can be anything like a weekend trip, a basketball game, a spa visit, or a party.

5. Be Okay with the Winter Season
The winter season can seem like more of a pain than an enjoyment, but it’s important to appreciate the good things that this time of year does bring. We have the holiday season, snowmen, hot chocolate, warm fireplaces, sledding and skating, the Super bowl and so much more. Try out activities that can really be enjoyed during the winter months. Keep a positive attitude and have some fun!
