Wardrobe basics make getting dressed everyday easy but it doesn’t necessarily make you scream “trendsetter!” I doubt anyone has ever said, “Wow, that’s a great navy blazer!” or “Where did you get those amazing black trousers?”
You can kick up your wardrobe right around the holiday season and still keep a sane budget. Follow these useful tips and head to the nearest Goodwill and watch your wardrobe go from wack to wow!
Sparkle is timeless. Sequin looks great with everything, well, almost everything. Sequin and sweatpants are probably two things that don’t look great together, but sequin and denim have been all the range the past few seasons. It really glams up your trousers or even add zest under your blazer.
Has anyone ever not felt sexy in animal print? Does it not kick your inner temptress into high drive? Animal print is actually a neutral and like sequin, goes great with almost anything. Not sure how to incorporate it in your wardrobe? Go for an animal print scarf or a pair of pumps with your black dress.
Leather, or vegan leather, adds a sort of rebellious, rock-n-roll twist to wardrobe basics. Whether it’s a jacket or a fun separate, like skirt or pants, leather is ageless and also draws out your inner bad boy or girl.
If sequin, animal print and leather are too ambitious or you work in a conservative environment, keep it simple and go for a pop of color: neon, pastel or jewel toned. Whatever fits your fancy. You can infuse color on any part of your wardrobe: a coat, an accessory, just a top or even a bottom.
I left this one for last because prints can either cause inspiration to your wardrobe or insanity. You don’t want to be the crazy lazy in head-to-toe floral or plaid. The key to prints is twofold. First understand the theme of the print: sedate, bold or festive, and then compliment it with your basic. Also find a complimentary color and pull it out with your basic. Seems simple- go for it!
