Back To School Closet Clean Out!

Guest Blogger Tiffany Casanova tells us about getting ready for back to school with a closet clean-out in a few simple steps:
My sons, 9 year old  NYC  reporters Tristin and Tyler,  accumulate a lot of clothes since they spend so much time in front of a camera.  So when it’s back to school time, as their mom, I’m always ready for a big closet clean out to make space for new clothes and school supplies.
At the end of my clean up I always end up with quite a bit of clothes that don’t fit the boys properly, but are still in good condition.  If you’re like me and don’t  have little ones ready to take over those lightly-worn duds, why not pack them up and donate them to Goodwill instead of throwing them away?

If you didn’t know already, donating to Goodwill not only gets your closet  in order for the new school year, but your donations also help those in need with after-school and mentoring programs for children and youth, and by providing training and job support services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Goodwill is a not-for-profit organization that helps those in need get back on their feet, and our youth to get back on the right track to a brighter future.

Here are a few tips for doing your back-to-school clean out:

Ask your kids to try on old shoes and clothing to see what still fits.

  • Pack the items that no longer fit in a reusable bag (plastic is so bad for the planet) and  head for your nearest Goodwill — click here for the store locator.
  • Donate the items with your children to show them how important it is to give back to those in need.
  • Your donation is tax deductible, so be sure to ask for a receipt.
  • Take full advantage of Goodwill’s back to school sale from  on August 5-8 where you can receive 25% off school supplies and clothing!

There you have it, getting ready for back to school with a closet clean-out in a few simple steps. Did you ever think that helping others would make your closet look good and make you feel good at the same time? I knew it would.
