Spring is mere weeks away – why not welcome it in style? Our correspondent Lauren has a plan. She’s going to make sure that Spring feels welcome when it finally arrives. How is she going to make this happen? With vibrant finds as bright as a whole row of tulips, all found at her local Goodwill. Last week, we spotted some shockingly blue color-blocked kicks. This weeks, we in for another high-value treat. Introducing this week’s Goodwill Gem: Super Vivid Arm Candy.
It is still technically winter, and the temps outside seem to say so, too. But winter can’t (thankfully) last very much longer. To inject a little of happy, springtime feel into a wardrobe that still needs to protect you from the cold, add vivid pops of color with fresh new accessories.
Bags are one thing it seems you can never have enough of. They instantly change the look and feel of an ensemble with absolutely zero effort, so it’s hard not to want to have an infinite number on hand. Luckily, if you’re smart enough to shop thriftily at your local Goodwill, you can make that dream of (almost) unlimited handbags a reality.
A big, slouchy, red bag, like the one I found this week at my neighborhood store, is somewhat casual, but the vivid color really makes it stand out and seem somewhat more polished. And the hobo style makes it ideal for stashing all sorts of essentials away from the world’s view, which is especially crucial during those early spring months when everyone seems to be coming out of hibernation and your social calendar can fill up quickly.
Now that you’ve got the bag, how do you take your new Spring-ready piece out onto the street? By optimizing that winter wear, of course! If you’re a New Yorker, chances are that means black. Here in NY and NJ, sleek black separates are a wintertime (and really, an anytime) essential. For work or play, choosing something black and beautifully tailored is sure to make you look gorgeously put together for any event or occasion.
But, despite our best efforts, black can start to feel blah when worn day after day after day. If your daily winter wardrobe is mainly composed of blacks, whites, and other neutral tones, jazzing up those basic pieces with some stunning pops of color can really lift up your go-to outfits (and your mood, too!).
Here, I’m planning to pair a favorite, soft black sweater and a fun black-and-white skirt in a graphic print with my brilliant new bright red bag. It’s a color combination that never goes out of style, and that burst of vibrant red really adds some much-needed life to this stylish, but rather ho-hum, office-ready outfit.
