Happy Hanukkah all! If you’re anything like us, you’ve been shuttling from one night’s gathering to the next, taste-testing latkes (and the occasional gingerbread) all over town. All that bustling around means it’s as important as ever to be bundled up. Our correspondent Lauren has been celebrating the season with her newest Goodwill find, this week’s Goodwill Gem: The Non-Denominational All-Party-Friendly Classic Winter Scarf.
Warming winter accessories are a must this time of year. Even though we’ve had some strange and unseasonably warm weather in the Tri-State area lately, it’s still necessary to fight off a little December chill. We’ve exchanged serious snow for dreary drizzle and gray skies this week, but that kind of in-between weather can be difficult to dress for – enter the all-purpose scarf.
Light enough to wear on only mildly chilly days, a thin wool scarf like the one I found this week at my local Goodwill store is still substantial enough to keep you warm and toasty when that not-quite-freezing rain starts to fall. And the cute plaid pattern in soft grays and tans will go with anything in your winter wardrobe.
This is one of those pieces you can wear anytime, anywhere, with anything. It’s such a great find because you can pair it with anything and look effortlessly elegant, while still staying nice and warm. Wear it with your thickest, warmest, poofiest down jacket and outdoor gear, or throw it on over a pair of jeans cozy knit sweater or long-sleeve tee.
While I’ve chosen a super-comfy pocket dress and figure-cinching belt, that scarf would look just as sweet layered with casually chic sweater dress, your favorite pair of knee-high leather boots, and slim, tailored jacket – an ensemble that’s just right for a low-key day at the office, and weekend brunch, or nearly any other day-to-day occasion when you want to look polished and put together, but not dressy or overdone.
What soft seasonal scarf is loving your neck this season? Come share your pics on our Facebook page or send @GoodwillNyNj a tweet. Keep in mind, too, that GoodwillNyNj’s $50 shopping credits for those affected by the storm ($50 for each family member) are still good for any item you might need at any Goodwill store in the region. Take care, stay warm, and keep the goodwill going strong, all!
