Who couldn’t use some coziness right about now? In the wake of hurricane Sandy, many of us in the tri-State area are still reeling. Here at GoodwillNyNj, we’re offering $50 shopping credits to those affected by the storm – $50 for each family member, valid for everything from bedding to cookware to clothing to toys.
Sometimes, though, it’s the simplest things that make all the difference. This week, our correspondent Lauren set out to find something we all could use right about now: Super Cozy, Super Comfy All-Hands-on-Deck Fingerless Gloves.
I am so lucky – I had heat, power, water, the whole shebang throughout the storm and its aftermath. Not everyone was as fortunate, though, and so my good luck means I’m available to help others.
Whether it’s dropping off much-needed supplies at a Goodwill-WPLJ-Modell’s site or sorting donations at a Goodwill headquarters, I’m suiting up to help out. It’s cold out there, after all, so this week’s Goodwill Gem is especially useful, either to keep or to (even better) give away.
Finding warm winter accessories like these gloves at your local Goodwill will mean you can get more gently used, ready-to-donate items for your dollars, and you’ll feel good knowing they went directly to someone who really needs them right now.
A pair of stylish, cozy gloves like these are great, because while keeping your hands warm, they also leave your fingers free – whether you need to type, text, or use them to volunteer in some way or another. Whether you’re looking for a pair for yourself or to give, you can feel good knowing that these cute gloves are super functional as well as fun.
Here, I’ve paired them with one of my favorite, well-worn sweaters, which just happens to have a ¾-length sleeve. And on chilly early winter days like the ones we’re experiencing now, ¾ of a sleeve is just not enough. With long gloves like these (they literally reach all the way to my elbow), I can easily layer up and keep warm all winter long, no matter what else I feel like wearing.
But, of course, I won’t be keeping these, so if you happen to be the one to get these gloves, enjoy them – and when your situation turns back to lucky (which it will), I hope you’ll pass them on to others in need.
Come chime in with what you’re doing to help others in your community after the storm. I’d love to see your stories on our Facebook page or you can always send @GoodwillNyNj a tweet. Take care, stay warm, and keep the goodwill going strong, all!
