Why Did I Buy That??: #SevenThingsSunday & GoodwillNyNj

This Sunday, we’re teaming up with a new New York City venture, ClosetDash Shop, to promote reuse, community and smarter consumerism.

ClosetDash Shop’s #SevenThingsSunday will raise awareness about where Goodwill donations end up, while also providing a chance for local residents to meet one another and lend support in decluttering our lives.

Come RSVP and join us if you happen to be in the NY area – it’d be a pleasure to see you and your Why-Did-I-Buy-That?? donations!

For more information and tickets, please visit seventhingssunday.eventbrite.com. Also, please note that donations are accepted at all our local Goodwill stores during open hours as well as at this ClosetDash Event.

Goodwill Gem: Chains as Gold as Autumn Leaves

Summer is over, but don’t hole up in your down jackets just yet – there’s still a place for summer style in the new season. With that in mind, our Lauren headed out to her local Goodwill looking for finds that would ease summer faves into autumn staples, coming back with this week’s Goodwill Gem: Chains as Gold as Autumn Leaves.

This lovely, long gold chain is the perfect thrifty find to top off all your best, most beloved layering pieces this fall.

The best looks always come from a creative incorporation of multiple styles, influences and trends, and even your season-to-season wardrobe can reflect that. With that in mind, an easy way to take your favorite summer pieces into fall is simply by layering them with other, warmer items already in your closet – and punching them up with a sweet accessory or two, of course.

This week’s find is perfect for just that purpose. This long, golden necklace is ideal for layering with all your go-to fall pieces, and with other bangles, baubles, and accessories, too. Its large linking rings grab attention, but it’s simple enough in style that you can still put it on with other pieces, without overwhelming it or any of the other items you choose to wear it with.

Fresh from our Pequannock Goodwill opening, we’ve got another new store to announce! On Friday, September 28, Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey will open its first Broome County store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials at 9:50 a.m.

Our first store in Broome County opens September 28th, bringing new jobs, retail training opportunities, goodwill and good deals into the Binghamton community. Hope to see you there!

The Goodwill Binghamton store and donation center is located at Price Chopper Plaza, 12 Glenwood Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13905. Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Sunday. Drawings for 20 gift cards will take place on opening days September 28-29.

The Binghamton store will provide retail training and jobs for up to 15 people, some of them persons with disabilities while offering local residents the opportunity to contribute to the mission of Goodwill by donating unwanted belongings.

Prior to the opening, we’ll welcome donations at the store Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5p.m. After September 28th, we’ll welcome donations during open hours, as at all our retail locations. Because Goodwill is a not-for-profit organization, contributed items in good condition are tax-deductible, and receipts are provided upon request.

Measuring 20,000 square feet in total, the store will offer a variety of new and gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, linens, electronics, books, records, CDs, DVDs, and other household items in its 10,000 square-foot retail space.

Thanks to the support of our customers and donors, Goodwill NYNJ serves 100,000 individuals annually and places 4 individuals in competitive jobs every hour of every business day. Goodwill’s mission is to empower individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment to gain independence through the power of work.
