What’s hot beyond the temperature? Shopping now for next season’s bit hits – and one of the biggest: wine-toned hues! Our correspondent Lauren set off to spot the trend at her local Goodwill and, happy surprise, discovered this week’s brilliantly bordeaux Goodwill Gem: Shoes in Next Season’s Star Hue.
Deep, rich purples may not be the first color you think of when you think summer – but just wait until fall. Gorgeous plum tones are the stand-out shade for next season (even The Budget Fashionista agrees), and incorporating this pretty hue into your wardrobe now is one way to ensure you’ll be ahead of the sartorial curve.
These strappy, high-heeled sandals – which I stumbled across at my local Goodwill, of course – use two shades of purple in a way that is right on trend this season. Color blocking is all the rage, and the thick strips of parallel color (and the two-tone heel) totally mimic this currently hip look. The small platform in front and solid heel in back makes these sweet shoes comfortable enough to wear for hours at a stretch, and the soft, real leather ensures that your feet won’t get hot and blistered in the sweltering summer sun.
You can wear these pretty plum heels with lots of other shades – I’d recommend warm, contrasting tones like red, orange, or yellow. And of course, they’re a fantastic way to wake up a summer outfit of whites. But here, I’ve decided to stick to the purple-on-purple theme in the shoes, and really saturate myself in this luxurious color:
A hip-skimming purple mini is both flattering and easy to wear in the mid-summer heat – its soft jersey is light, soft and cool, making this skirt the perfect pick for anything from a barbecue to the beach to a casual night out with friends. A stretchy summer halter in classic black doesn’t distract from my fab new shoes, and with a delicate bangle or pendant necklace, this effortless look is done!
