Start your summer right on Saturday, June 30, at Goodwill’s Village Store Window Sale!

The sale begins at 9 a.m. and is first come, first serve. Each customer is given a ticket in the order they arrive starting at 8:50. Two customers come in at a time, and may choose two items each to purchase. If they want more, they must go to the back of the line and get another ticket. The doors open for everyone after all of the window sale customers are done, usually 10-10:15. You’ll find the Goodwill Greenwich Village Store at 44 West 8th Street, New York, NY 10011 (phone 212-477-7024).

Just in case you’re not in the know yet, a Goodwill Window Sale is when the best items in the store (which have been displayed in the window for days if not weeks) go on sale. There are often designer items and high-priced toys in the mix. We’ve seen everything from red lacquered Chinese lions to a Ferragamo heels to pristine electric guitars. Crowds form early, so try to get to the store well before doors open.

This beach-bohemian clutch adds just the right touch to an ordinary ensemble, whether you’re traveling to work, out for an evening on the town, or stopping by a Saturday brunch with friends.

Goodwill Gems: A Touch of Bronze

Now that it’s officially summer, make sure the season shines bright in your closet! Lauren hits her local Goodwill looking for small touches that bring big heat to her outfits – leading her smack into the sunspot of this week’s Goodwill Gem: A Touch of Bronze.

This gorgeous bronze cuff is a glamorous but bohemian accessory that captures the essence of summer.

Bring home the sun! Few materials reflect the warm, shimmering beauty of a summer sunset like bronze. Even if you can’t relax on the beach all summer, you can carry that relaxed, sun-drenched feeling with you everywhere you go, when you add a cute cuff, like the one I stumbled across during my last trip to my local Goodwill.

A cuff like this is full of eye-catching detail – the etched metal design is delicate and feminine, and yet the substantial size and weight of this bronze bangle make it look anything but flimsy.  Since it’s made entirely of metal, without any gems, rhinestones, sparkles or other bling, it also manages to exude a kind of understated elegance, despite that size and heft.

In short, it’s the perfect piece of summertime jewelry – casual enough to wear every day, but classy enough to wear when you’re going all out and getting fancy for a special occasion. So… how to wear it?

Upcycling with Goodwill!

Lucky us – our guest columnist David Morgan is back with a fantastic post on upcycling! Whether you’re an Etsy shop owner or a total craft novice, this post is for you. Enjoy!:

David shows off his newest upcycle triumph: the belt-to-bracelet wrist cuff!

The great thing about shopping at Goodwill is that the low costs of each item offers you a chance to experiment with them. Adding a bit of creativity to a thrifted piece is a low-risk investment that can have high-impact results. I love doing this, and recently created two tutorials on my blog that showed super-easy ways to upcycle thrifted pieces.

One idea is to turn an old leather belt into a unique bracelet. Simply snip the buckle off and wrap it around your wrist. It’s that easy!

Another idea is to add a cool design on a thrifted shirt using fabric paint and a pencil eraser. You can do any design you want, and the results are really cool. This also makes a really fun family craft project with kids.

For added inspiration, poke holes in a t-shirt for a breezy, chic summer look. Check out one of my past Goodwill posts for more information.
