A Swap Party and three Window Sales turn this weekend into Goodwill gold! If you’ve never been to a clothing swap, you’re missing out – these parties are an amazing way to makeover your wardrobe, meet fellow fashion fans and support reuse.
This Saturday, May 19th, I Have a Degree in This‘ Kimberlee (one of our fav DMD Fashion Show stylists) joins ClosetRaid to host the Spring Clean Your Closet Swap Party! ClosetRaid is a fun and social way to showcase, sell, swap or give away your items with your networks – we’re sure you’ll be hearing much more about them in the future.
We’ll be there along with fellow swappers, Room To Grow and WGirls at the Projective Space in Lower East Side (the open loft space above Zarin Fabrics) and all the clothes, house ware items, books, electronics, etc. brought for swapping and donation. Entrance is free when you bring 3 or more items to swap or donate, or $10 otherwise. For more information and to RSVP: http://closetraidswap.eventbrite.com/
***We just found out this event is sold out, but we know there will be more to come. If you’re interested in hosting a Clothing Swap and would like us to be involved, send us an email at email@example.com. We’d love to make sure that your no-longer-neededs find a good home.
Now, as for Friday and Saturday’s Window Sales…
FRIDAY, MAY 18
- The 149th Street Goodwill Store Window Sale: Tickets are distributed to customers on line by 7:45 a.m. and the doors open at 8. The store admits two customers at a time. Purchases are limited to two window items per person. At 9, the store opens to everyone unless there are still ticket-holders on line. Once they’ve made their purchases, any remaining window merchandise is up for grabs. You’ll find the Bronx Goodwill Store at 361 East 149th Street, Bronx, NY 10455 (phone 718-292-1083).
SATURDAY, MAY 19
- The East Harlem Goodwill Store Window Sale: Tickets are distributed to customers on line at 8:15 a.m., and the doors open at 8:30 for window items only. The store admits three customers at a time. Purchases are limited to two items per person. At 9:30, the store opens to everyone and any remaining window merchandise is up for grabs. You’ll find the East Harlem Goodwill Store at 2231 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10035 (phone 212-410-0973).
- The Stuyvesant Goodwill Store Window Sale: Purchases are first come, first serve. Tickets are given out just before the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Two people are allowed in at a time to purchase two items each. Out of consideration for other customers, we ask that they make their selection as quickly as possible and not ask to examine each window item. When their transactions are complete, they may go to the back of the line if they want more window merchandise. The store opens for everyone at 10 a.m., but the window sale line continues inside until the sale is over. You’ll find the Stuyvesant Goodwill Store at 1704 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10128 (phone 212-831-1830).
Just in case you’re not in the know yet, a Goodwill Window Sale is when the best items in the store (which have been displayed in the window for days if not weeks) go on sale. There are often designer items and high-priced toys in the mix. We’ve seen everything from red lacquered Chinese lions to a Ferragamo heels to pristine electric guitars. Crowds form early, so try to get to the store well before doors open.

The more donations we get, the more for everyone to buy, and the more funding for our programs and services to keep changing lives. Happy Goodwill hunting, all!
