There’s a lot to be said for black. You look slim, streamlined, a little mysterious – plus any black piece you buy can mix seamlessly with your more vibrant finds. Win! This week, our Lauren set out to her local Goodwill in search of a dark and stormy staple that’d work just as well with brights as with blacks. Introducing this week’s Goodwill Gem: the Wink of Ink Black.
Back in black. Maybe it’s the cooler, dreary weather we’ve started May off with, or maybe it’s just habit, but after weeks of searching for colorful spring accessories, I find myself gravitating back to the black. And on a gray, drizzly day in spring, what could lift a girl’s spirit better than a pair of fabulous, always-in-style black heels?
These stellar black pumps have a sleek, rounded toe, give you a bit of height (and much-needed comfort) with a hidden platform, and have a thick, chunky heel that’s very of-the-moment. The solid heel and round toe also gives them a slightly vintage vibe, but the sharp black suede that covers them keeps them looking modern.
These are, clearly, the kind of shoes you can wear anywhere, with anything. Dress them up or dress them down, a pair of classic black pumps like these will never do you wrong. Wear them out with your favorite cocktail frock in any color of the rainbow, or wear them with jeans and your favorite glitzy, girly tank or blouse, and you’ll end up looking equally fabulous.
But to really set off these shoes and make sure they aren’t overshadowed by an eye-catching ensemble, I decided to pair them with some casual, ordinary office wear to let them take center stage (and lend me serious height with legs that’ll look ten miles long…). A word to the wise: never underestimate the lengthening power of platform heels + jeans – especially when they’re both in the same color family!
Here, I’ve put on a pair of skinny slacks in a soft gray hue. On top, a loose-fitting jersey knit in one of my favorite colors for the season, a vibrant indigo blue that flatters anyone who puts it on. To jazz up my simple separates, I added a light spring scarf, also gray, covered in a swirl of blue, pink, rust-red, and taupe dots, for a subtle punch of color.
This look is comfortable, effortless, and put together, but my new black heels will really add that extra oomph this needs to make me look polished enough for work or for running about town.
