A Giants win, a (so-far) super-mild winter – what sweeter way to celebrate the Empire and Garden States this season than with a new-to-you-pair-of-shoes that give back to your community? Our correspondent Lauren leaves the galoshes in the closet and heads out to her local Goodwill to scout this week’s Goodwill Gem: the Sweet-as-Candy Kitten Heels.
Little girls and grown-up gals alike need a few nice, feminine things that just make us feel like…well, girls. And for those days, you’re bound to need a sweet pair of shoes like this week’s ruby-red gem, which will instantly give you poise and give your look that little extra dose of sweetness.
These babies’ bright red color will spice up any outfit you can pull together, no matter how simple, or how quickly thrown together. The soft suede upper makes them the perfect pick for chilly (but not cold) February days like the ones we’ve been having lately – when the temps aren’t too high, but there’s no snow, slush or ice on the ground (we have been lucky this winter, haven’t we?).
The satin bow in that same brilliant shade of red and set off to one side, adds a lovely, ladylike detail to draw the eye, but without lots of the overly complicated fuss or frills that might distract from the rest of your ensemble. Finally, the petite and delicate heel gives a bit of height, but isn’t so tall it could make the wearer feel uncomfortable or ill at ease. These shoes really do strike the perfect balance!
A very girly pair of heels like this one does a fabulous job of complementing a menswear-inspired look, like a playful blazer (a big trend right now) paired with classic cigarette pants. The contrast of super-girly pieces and more masculine ones keeps the entire outfit from becoming too saccharine sweet and gives it a grown-up feel, as does the choice to stick with a completely black and white palate.
With the help of a few classic pieces like a much-loved blazer and cigarette pants, this week’s find – a delightfully feminine pair of kitten heels – helps me strike a balance between my fun, frilly side and my more practical, clean-cut one.
How would you dress up (or down) these heels? Come tell us in the comments here, post a photo of a fav look on our Facebook page or send @GoodwillNyNj a tweet. GoodwillNyNj & I love seeing your style, so keep us posted!
