Welcome to a new year of thrift fashion fabulousness! Now that all the partying is over and done and you’ve rung in 2012 in style, it’s time to think once again about the kind of pieces you can wear day in and day out. Our correspondent Lauren jumped into 2012 with Goodwill on her mind. Take a look at her find – something any girl could use to start the New Year right – this week’s Goodwill Gem: Baby’s Got a New Pair of Shoes!
No one is quite ready to throw off the festive spirit and jump right from weeks of parties to straight-laced practicality (or at least, I’m not). To bring a little brightness and light into your everyday winter wardrobe, search out a pair of cute, vividly colored booties like these.
My latest find from Goodwill is this pair of soft suede ankle boots in a brilliant ruby hue – rich enough to complement darker winter clothes, but bright enough to stand out against a closetful of blacks and grays. The metallic gold buttons down the side add another touch of richness and interesting detail to these already eye-popping heels.
Now… how to wear it: Don’t shy away from putting color with more color. You could easily use bright booties like these to add a pop of attention-grabbing color to an all-black ensemble or any outfit that seems to be a bit too plain and just lacking pizzazz. However, I’ve chosen to go for a bolder look, and so I’ve paired these darling heels with skinny black pants in a soft, rich velvet – which, along with suede, is another favorite fabric choice for winter – and a gorgeous, feminine blouse that is covered in a big floral print.
The loose, flowing shape of the blouse keeps my scarlet booties from looking too brash (especially when the whole ensemble is actually anchored in black), but the bright red flowers on top pick up the red in the shoe, creating a winter look that is unusually lively – and maybe already anticipating the warmer weather and wider array of color choices to come in just a few months time.
