The start of fall is the perfect time to reassess the state of your wardrobe – and our Lauren Haslett is doing just that. This week she scouts around her local Goodwill for something to bring a little pep into her closet – a certain peppy preppy something to rev up her look for the fall. Take a look at this week’s Goodwill Gem: the technicolor belt.
With summer drawing to a close, it’s about time to pack away a few things you won’t wear through the rest of the year and to pull out your light sweaters and layers. But you don’t have to rely 100% on last year’s picks.
Throw in a little something new-to-you – something in a hue that still shines like the best times of summer! Adding a few playful pieces to your timeless staples will turn this in-between season into it’s own, unique fashion moment. Why not enjoy?
This brilliant belt, for example, is a great staple piece that you can use to add a pop of color to your fall basics. Since so much of our cold-weather wardrobe consists of blacks, grays, camels and other neutrals, a bit of bright raspberry around the middle can instantly add a much-needed lift to any fall ensemble. While fiery reds and oranges are fabulous for this season, this vivid pink is a vibrant segue hue to take you from summer brights to the russet tones that work so well in cooler times.
A bright belt like this gives a boost of color and interest to your basic pieces, brightening up the early autumn. So how to wear it?
Here, I’ve gone back to my favorite basics to create an outfit that’s work-friendly, fun, and easy to wear. A gray-and-white striped collared shirt is comfortable and clean cut, and paired with my favorite cropped black pants and my new belt, I have a look I can wear to the office any day of the week, and anywhere I might want to go after. With a pair of feminine black booties, wedge heels or comfy flats, I can take this look from casual Friday to J. Crew-chic in no time at all.
How would you wear a technicolor belt like this? Tell me in the comments here, on our Facebook page or through a @GoodwillNyNj tweet. I love seeing your style, so keep us posted! Stay classy, New York & New Jersey!
