It’s still hot as Hades, but tell that to back-to-school season. That’s right – it’s time to start prepping your wardrobe for fall. To stay ahead of the times, GoodwillNyNj’s Lauren Haslett took a trip to Goodwill to find a Gem equal parts business and casual. The result? Success!: the Slouchy-Serious Work-Play Purse.
Lucky me – it turns out secondhand stores are the perfect place to look for in-between-seasons pieces. Maybe it’s because there’s such a large array of accessories (key style elements to signalling a seasonal transition), or maybe because I can afford them all – either way, I can’t complain! Proof of the Goodwill goodness:
This fab leather shoulder bag I picked up at one of my fave Goodwill locations recently. The styling looks almost like a retro school satchel (very on-trend). This bag is big enough to bring to the office – it’ll work as hard as you do, its multiple pockets and compartments holding important work docs, your lunch and that extra pair of flats without a problem – and the soft brown leather looks both cozy and worn-in and professional at once.
Now how to style it?
A bag that can do summer-to-fall this seamlessly deserves an equally versatile outfit to go with it. To keep it that summer thrill even after fall chill, throw this bag on over a boldly printed summer skirt, a pair of cozy textured tights and light layers on top (so you can don or shed them at a moment’s notice).
Here, I’ve gone with one of my favorite ruffly summer minis in a brilliant floral print with lots of reds, oranges and yellows (perfect hues for fall) and a simple black tank. The denim blazer on top will keep me warm and comfy while the nubby gray tights will keep my legs toasty and add visual interest to the look all at once. Finished off with my new bag and a pair of shoe-booties, I could easily take this look from class to work to happy hour without breaking a sweat, or shivering in the crisp autumn air.
