Our Emme is walking tall – and she wants you to do the same! With last week’s Optimal Play flirty skirt, who can blame her? Whether you pair them with dresses or jeans, though, this week’s Goodwill Essentials post makes for a good time. So here it is, the essential of the week: high heels.
“Give a girl the correct footwear and she can conquer the world.” — Bette Midler
I am, unabashedly, a lover of shoes. I might not always go for a practical pair, but new shoes always bring a little spring to my step. And hey, we all need shoes, right? So instead of blowing my rent on shoes, I turn to Goodwill to satiate my shoe thirst.
Support the Donate Movement by donating to Goodwill. You’ll keep clothing out of landfills and give them a second life while helping to provide job training, youth support services and more for people in your community. Here’s how it works:
The contest runs through August 12th and you must be 18 or older to participate. For more details, restrictions, and the chance to enter, check out Goodwill International’s Facebook Page. And keep those donations coming strong, Goodwill fans – you’ll always get an A+ from us!
Summer calls for a bag that’s as easy as the rest of your cool, warm weather wardrobe. This week, GoodwillNyNj’s Lauren Haslett sashays into her local Goodwill to find her newest Goodwill Gem: the too hip to quit retro purse.
This week’s fabulous find – a two-tone time-traveling leather bag – is the perfect tote to pair with your most laid-back summer essentials. Its perfectly proportioned pockets and stark rectangular shape will keep you looking professional, but the bag’s throwback appeal hints your life’s more runway than water cooler. With its structured look and classic construction, this purse adds wit and purpose to those loose, flowy seasonal pieces.
So what kind of outfit would you pair with this purse?
The course is 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) – perfect for a gorgeous morning in the park! Customers, staff, clients and their families are all invited to come out and support this initiative.
We’ll have tons of fun little perks to keep you moving forward on the course – you won’t even realize the workout you’re getting. Registration (at http://bit.ly/goodwill5k) is $20 for each participant and includes up to 4 family members, so the more, the merrier!
Stay tuned for more info as the date nears – and in the meantime, may we suggest you try your local Goodwill for appropriate footwear? We do have an impressive array of running shoes…
Flounces for all! In this week’s Optimal Play, A Good Look’s Emme Bonillamakes the most of a standard wardrobe standby: the peasant skirt. Take a look at three completely different ways to groove this look – and get ready to get the most Optimum Play out of your next Goodwill find:
A year ago or so, while browsing at the Livingston Street Goodwill in Brooklyn, I spotted a flash of red fabric. When I pulled the hanger I was delighted with my find: the bright color, the breezy cotton, the elastic waistband, the pretty embroidery and trimming… and for $5! It’s quickly become one of my summer staples for its ease and style. Thank goodness there are so many different ways to wear it…
Forget the frills for once. As much as we all love the girly, flowery clothes that appear every summer season, it’s hard not to occasionally miss our straightforward, simple and eternally chic blacks. This summer, take a cue from GoodwillNyNj’s Lauren Haslett, head to Goodwill & fight blistering heat with a baddie outfit. This week’s Goodwill Gem: studded tough-girl shoes.
Black clothes may not have the cheeriness of our summer frocks, but you can’t say they aren’t bold. Black makes a statement and, when worn well, is just as eye-catching as a pale sundress or brilliantly printed floral piece.
The center will be staffed 7 days a week from 9am-6pm with three Goodwill employees ready to accept donations of clothing, electronics, small furniture, books, records, CDs, DVDs, and other household items from the public. These items will be sold in Goodwill stores to help support Goodwill’s mission of finding jobs for individuals facing barriers to employment.
