A Look Back: The Goodwill Favorites

Sometimes it’s hard to say goodbye, even if you know something’s going to a better place. Our amazing donators out there know what we’re talking about. But if you don’t set something free, how can it find its perfect new home? Well, our columnist David Morgan is setting off on his own and we’ll miss him very much. However, he’s not leaving us empty-handed. Here is his post on his best all-time Goodwill ensembles. Hope you enjoy!

Today will mark my last post with in the “Good Look for Men” series with A Good Look by GoodwillNyNj. What an experience this has been! I have really enjoyed sharing my style and thrifting advice with you, and hope you enjoyed being a part of my ever-evolving fashion journey. For this very last post, I though it would be fun to look at back at my top 5 favorite looks. They are in no particular order, but these are the ones that I particularly had the most fun sharing with you all.

Getting Loose: When Comfort Fits Style

1). “Getting Loose: When Comfort Fits Style” – I think this outfit reflects where I am headed style-wise for 2011. I love things that are droopy, drape-y and comfortable, and I’m almost certain that my favorite color of the moment is burgundy. This outfit shows that with a simple cuff, pieces that may be too big can look stylish, and a nice, big scarf can make the outfit all the more interesting. This outfit also shows that pieces with similar colors, like the scarf and shirt, can go well together. I’ve always been a fan of a good color contrast, but I’m now leaning to more of a monochromatic look (like in my “Blue” post).

Goodwill, Thrift & Vintage Finds: These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

2). “Goodwill, Thrift & Vintage Finds: These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” – This outfit makes me sooo happy! I love looking at it just as much as I love wearing it. Blue balloon pants meet a Scandinavian-esque sweater for a look that, like #1, combines loose comfort with style. The handmade red necklace is also an example of a minimal but effective accessorizing. One needn’t go overboard!

Goodwill Gone Wild: Shopping for Color and Scandal

3). “Goodwill Gone Wild: Shopping for Color and Scandal” – Once my friend gave me these shorts, I was instantly in love with them. They’re so scandalously short, but absolutely perfect for the sweltering heat of New York. I love pairing them with my favorite dress shoes, and in this outfit I also show how brown and black can go wonderfully together in unexpected ways.

Goodwill & Distressed-Chic: Inspiration from Inspiration

4). “Goodwill & Distressed-Chic: Inspiration from Inspiration” – I was on a big distressing kick last summer. I couldn’t stop putting holes in all of my t-shirts! With a simple awl. this look was both easy and a bit stress-relieving 🙂 I’ll most likely rehash this look this summer, too.

Accessorize It!

5). “Accessorize It!” – I truly believe that the right accessories can make any outfit look great. This post showcased some of my favorite accessories, and some options for how to style them. I hope some of the tips helps you on your own fashion journey!

So there it is — my five favorite posts of the last 9 months. This is more of a “See You Later” than a “Goodbye,” though. Very soon, I will be launching my own fashion and craft blog, and I will be sure to share it with my Goodwill friends. Until then, keep thrifting and stay wonderfully YOU!
