Tis the season for snuggly, comfy sweaters! GoodwillNyNj Style Icon David Morgan makes Dad’s cardigans cool with grays shades, geometric shapes and knitwear-filled trips to Goodwill. Bundle up and take a look:
In 2011, I will make my very first crocheted sweater. I think this is #59 on my Resolution list, but I will get around to it. A few months ago I was given a huge bag of yarn, and I fully intend on using every last bit of it. Until then, I must admit that I’ve been guilty of taking my Father’s sweaters each time I go to visit my parents.
My father doesn’t really care – he’d be happy wearing sweatpants all day, and my mother has taken on the role of accomplice when I take them. Of course this sweater was thrifted 🙂 Both my parents are avid thrifters, which is where I get my obsession from. My father wears an X to XX-Large and I usually wear a Medium, but I really love oversized sweaters at the moment!
This one is my favorite. I love the geometric print, and one of my dreams (I think #88 on the list) is to own a knitting machine so I can make a machine-knit sweater like this one. Green also happens to be my third favorite color (blue and yellow are numbers 1 and 2, respectively), and I love green and grey combinations. I may have mentioned this in a previous post, but I think grey should replace black as the color that goes with everything. There is much less of a contrast, and grey adds a level of sophistication to every color it compliments.
It definitely is sweater season right now, and I must admit that I am enjoying this winter. Usually I despise the cold, but this year there’s something comforting about it. New York is more charming beneath the howling wind. If you frequently visit any New York or New Jersey Goodwills, stock up on a few oversized sweaters and enjoy the winter chill while it lasts! Have a hot chocolate picnic with a few friends or, when snow is piled on the ground, make a few snow angels. After all, ’tis the season to be jolly…and cozy 🙂
