New Hat, Old Scarf: All Bundled Up in Goodwill Style

Good news, crafty readers: we’ll be featuring a weekly column by GoodwillNyNj Style Icon David Morgan all about secondhand fashion and DIY style. This week: bundling up with the old and new. Enjoy!

A new hat and an old scarf.

In spite of school, I’m still the obsessive crafter.

Midterms is approaching though, so I’ll probably have to put a lid on my obsession for a while. Luckily, I finished a hat project just before school started 🙂 It’s my new favorite hat. It’s crocheted from breathable cotton, but made with super-tight stitches so it almost looks woven. You like??

My new hat.

Today I paired it with a green thrifted scarf, a staple that has been in my closet for probably over five years. I love when you discover a Goodwill find that has no signs of age, or gets better as it gets older. It makes the fact that you paid so little for it all the more sweeter. This scarf has traveled with me from Maryland to DC to New York, and I have no intention of abandoning it anytime soon.

I love wearing my thrifted, name-brand clothes with a wink!

The sweater is a newer thrifted find, made by Club Monaco. I think that brand is pretty high-end, although I couldn’t care less about labels. Still, I do wear it with a wink from time to time, especially if someone asks me where it’s from 😉

Going to back school has really provided a lot of fashion inspiration. The collegiate look, with its muted colors, comfortable fit yet polished and refined look, is all over the Columbia campus. I love it! I still love my bright colors too, so it will be interesting to see how these inspirations influence my style.
