Boo! Goodwill’s Got Halloween in the Bag

The best way to secure a killer Halloween costume is to start looking early. While we love homemade Halloween costumes pulled from thrift finds, there’s also something amazing about unzipping a plastic bag and becoming Superman. If you do decide to go the store-made costume route, start your search at Goodwill. We have a ton of options for you – here’s a look at the costumes we recently found while haunting our new New Rochelle store:

Why so serious, Goodwill shopper? Our prices alone will make you smile like the Joker. Just go easy on the lipstick next time...

Be Cool, Boy: Jackets that Fit the Season

Good news, crafty readers: we’ll be featuring a weekly column by GoodwillNyNj Style Icon David Morgan all about secondhand fashion and DIY style. This week: discovering your outer-layers: jackets made for Fall. Enjoy!

Grab your coat and get some style. There's nothing like secondhand outerwear to make cooler weather cool again.

I do not like cold weather — at all. I would much prefer sweltering heat over blistering cold any day, but, of course considering that I live in New York, I am “blessed” with both (hooray…). New York autumns, however beautiful they may be, are much too brief. Luckily, I’ve found a few cool jackets from Goodwill that will allow me to be a fashionable until Winter’s bite. As long as I can last without getting frostbite, you can find me wearing these:

Sharing the Goodwill: A Look at Our Incredible Fans

We love our fans. You guys make our day – and one of the coolest things about this blog, our Facebook and our Twitter, is that we get to hear from you and see how you’ve been sharing the Goodwill. We’ve had a few really impressive fan posts on our Facebook this summer, and so we thought we’d do our part in sharing the Goodwill even further. Here is a look at what your fellow fans are up to:

ReFashionista's Jillian worked absolute magic creating this adorable frock out of a back-of-the-racks Goodwill find.

ReFashionista: It’s incredible to see what Jillian can create out of the most unlikely fashion picks. While there’s plenty of cute clothes at your local Goodwill, she makes a great case for always starting with the ugliest duckling. Time after time, with her creative eye and seamstress skill, those once-questionable finds are transformed into swans.

A thrifted scarf, borrowed shirt, thrifted pants and thrifted shoes make for a super-loose and comfy outfit!

From childhood to adulthood, what pieces of clothing did you absolutely “have to have?” How many morning moments were spent cultivating the best outfit? What were the pieces of clothing that you felt the best in? It is amazing how one’s style develops over the years.
