  1. Where in Rockaway are you located??

    • We are located at 226 Rt 46 East in Rockaway, NJ…

  2. Goodwill needs to to quit writing prices on baseball gloves…Put a price tag on it, don’t write on the leather…Just plain stupid….Whoever came up with that policy must be a complete idiot…

    • Sorry, that was a little harsh…Just quit writing on leather. I mean, do you write prices on leather coats? Heck no…Use your heads…

      • Hi JD,

You’ve got a good point; we’ll definitely pass your suggestion up the line. Thank you for taking your time to write us and we hope you keep shopping at Goodwill. Enjoy the ball game!

        Best,
        GoodwillNyNj

  3. Can you please tell me the hours on the Good Will in Rockaway on Route 46.
    thank you!

    • Hi Lillian – the Rockaway store is open from 10am-8pm Mondays through Saturdays, and then from 10am-7pm on Sundays. Hope you enjoy your visit – let us know if you find anything good!

  4. What are your Sunday hours at the Chelsea Store? Dheitler@elliman.com

  5. I live near Kingston NY. I used to live in San Fransisco, while living there I worked for Good-Will Industries. They had a wonderful program, they gave clothing voucher to people in need. I would like to know if you have the same program in the Hudson Vally area the closes store to me is the store in the town of Ulster near Kingston NY.

    • Hi Reina,

The short answer is: not currently – to find out why, please keep reading (and thank you so much for reading our blog and asking a terrific question!).

When people hear the words Goodwill Industries, many think it is one big national organization. Instead, Goodwill is made up of 166 independent community-based nonprofits in the U.S. and Canada plus 13 international affiliates. All Goodwills share an emphasis on helping people achieve independence through work – A hand up, not a handout, in the words of founder Edgar Helms – but each one does it a little differently.

Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, which serves the Kingston area, has adopted the following as our mission: Goodwill Industries, through the power of work, will enhance the quality and dignity of life for individuals, families and communities. We will strive to overcome barriers to opportunity for people in need and facilitate empowerment, self-help and service.

The proceeds from stores go to support Goodwill programs to achieve that mission. For that reason, New York-New Jersey Goodwill does not offer vouchers, except to participants in its employment programs or in partnership with other human services agencies. It does provide jobs for community residents working in the stores and partners with local rehabilitation agencies to offer training and work for their clients.

We hope this helped explain things better, and, again, thank you so much for your support and your time!

  6. hello, I am a Goodwill junkie – shop there at least 3 times a month & usually spend about $200.00 a month – i am a craft/sewingholic & love to recycle. For my birthday in May, my sister wanted to give me a gift certificate at my favorite store. She ususally just got me a JoAnne’s Gift card, but I told her I would rather have one from Goodwill. So she drove to 4 different Goodwills in Los Angles to find a store that sold the Gift Cards – she bought me & mailed it to me in AZ. Surprise, AZ would NOT allow me to use the Gift Card so I had to wait until I went out to CA & vistit her to use it. NO, No, not any Goodwill, I tried, only the store the card was bought from. Really BAD Policy in this day & age of computers. I have shopped at Goodwills in CA, AZ, NV & WA. The gift card should be good at any & all stores. Please, please, please change your policy & get updated in this computer world that we all live in. Love, Love, Love most all of your store. My local one in Mesa, AZ on Brown & Mesa drive is my favorite. it is always clean & full of fun stuff – great staff too….

    • Hi Sandy,
First off, thank you for supporting Goodwill. We are delighted to hear that you asked for a gift card to our stores and that you utilize Goodwill as a resource for your crafting. Thank you! We love seeing how smart crafters take a secondhand item and create one-of-a-kind treasures.
About your specific situation, we realize how frustrating that must be and we’re sorry to hear you’re having such trouble. We’d love to have gift cards that were just as useful in CA as they are in NY, but unfortunately that’s not currently the case. Each region has its own Goodwill system because we want to ensure we can tailor ourselves specifically to our respective community’s needs. Since our store sales support our programs, we operate very locally. Still, you bring up a great point about customer convenience and we will pass your thoughts on to the higher-ups. Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience you’ve experienced and so appreciate your choice in shopping at our stores. Thank you so much for sharing with us and we hope you keep supporting Goodwill.
      All the best,
      GoodwillNyNj

  7. Do you accept donated furniture?

    • Hi Kristi,
So happy you’re interested in donating – thank you! We do accept furniture, as long as it’s not broken. For a full list of all we accept, check out this page on our website: https://www.goodwillny.org/donation_guidelines.aspx
      Hope that helps!

  8. I was looking on the list of what you will accept as a donation and did not see televisions. I have a 42 inch tv which I would like to give away. Will you take it?

    • Thank you for your comment and for thinking of Goodwill when planning your donations. You’re right – it would be a real shame to just toss the TV when it could be used to benefit others and get you a tax deduction in the process.

Goodwill accepts some TVs, which may explain why we don’t have it listed. We accept working digital televisions. We cannot accept TVs that are analog, nonworking or more than 10 years old. If your TV is working & digital, we would be grateful to have it. Your donation will allow us to continue providing jobs and workforce rehabilitation programs to New York and Northern New Jersey residents, helping countless community members get their lives back on track.

Again, thank you for considering Goodwill, and we hope to see you in our stores and donation centers soon!

  9. I heard you have a discount day? What is your discount day?

    • Hi Christine – thanks for the comment! Our discounts vary store-by-store and whenever we can, we post the information here on the A Good Look by GoodwillNyNj blog’s homepage. We’re sure we’ll have more day-of-the-week sale info up soon, but in the meantime, you can always give your local and/or favorite Goodwill store a call and find out which days they’re running discounts. At the end of this reply, we put a quick link to all the Goodwill stores sorted by neighborhood. Click whichever neighborhood applies to you and you’ll be taken to a list of stores along with their address and phone numbers. Hope that helps and thank you for your support! 10. LOVE YOU BIG NEW STORE IN RIDGEWOOD, NJ! NOT A PLACE I EVR WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TO FIND ONE, BUT GRATEFUL JUST THE SAME THAT YOU OPENED HERE!!! KEEP UP ALL THE GOOD WORK,
    PAT IN RAMSEY

    • Hi Pat – We’re delighted you like our new NJ Goodwill. Thank you for the kind words and thank you so much for your support!

  11. I wanted to know, if I could donate some beautiful Knitted Scarves(Hand made) I have an abundance :)

    • Hi Lin – We certainly do – thank you for thinking of us at Goodwill! You can donate your scarves at any of our Goodwill stores during their open hours. Thank you for the comment and your interest!

  12. I got an email saying that all “ware” is 50% off next week and I was wondering what it means by “ware.” Does it include everything in the store?
Thanks and love shopping at good will!

    • Hi JL – Thank you for the support; it’s great to hear from you! “Wares” here refers to housewares – so all pots, pans, plates, glasses, breadmakers, muffin tins, etc are 50% off from Dec. 26-31. We’re hoping it’s everything you need to host your loved ones for 2012′s dinner parties and family gatherings. Happy Holidays and Happy New Years! Best, GoodwillNyNj

  13. Is the new Goodwill Store open that is now located on
route 23 south in Wayne NJ? I shope all the time at the Rockaway store
but the new store on route 23 sourh would be closer to home.
    Thank you!

    • Thank you for your support, Maryann! We’re excited about the possibility of a Pequannock Goodwill but, we don’t have a firm date set for the opening yet. We will definitely keep you posted!

  14. I wanted to know how long it takes for a customer to receive the rewards card in the mail. I filled out an application in the store in NYC for over 6 weeks now and have not received my rewards card. I shop at Goodwill at least 2 times a week. I spend over $20 each visit and would like my points to accumulate. Is it possible to allow customers to apply for the rewards card online also? That way we would be sure that our applications are really entered into the system. I have no idea if the sales clerk sent my application off or it was just tossed in the trash. By the way, since I have found goodwill stores I have not been to a retail store in months. Keep up the good work!

    • Thank you for the comment, DD – we’re delighted to hear you’ve been spotting new sales! As for the card, our apologies it is taking so long. We checked with the retail team and they told us it can take up to 2 months to process the forms, create the cards, and mail them out. We know that’s a while. If you’d like us to intervene and speed up that process for you, we’d be glad to. Just email goodwillnynj@gmail.com the following: Your salutation (Mrs./Ms./Mr./Dr.), first name, last name, street address, apartment #, city, state, zip, phone/email, month-day-year of birth and favorite/closest Goodwill store. We’ll be sure to process this ASAP for you if you email us directly, since we’ll be able to keep tabs on your specific card. Hope that helps and thank you for your patience, understanding and support – we really appreciate it!

      • Also – one more note for you, DD: you mentioned applying online… We think this is a fantastic idea, and we’re working on it. Right now, the best option we have is to fill out the online form at http://www.goodwillny.org/downloads/Goodwill_Rewards_Fillable_Form.pdf and then either turn that into your nearest store, or email it to us at goodwillnynj@gmail.com. We are also working on in-store registrations, though we don’t yet have a time frame on that. We’ll certainly keep you posted, though. Thanks again and take care!

  15. hi! is there a store in hackettstown?

  16. Hi, when will the Patchogue, NY location reopen again?

    • Hi Jan – Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately we aren’t able to answer that question at this time. As soon as we have more info on the Patchogue Goodwill’s reopening, we’ll be sure to post it on this blog. Thank you again for your support, though – we really appreciate it and couldn’t do the good we do without shoppers and donators like you!

  17. Days and hours of operation, please? thank you.

  18. I noticed that there are no Goodwill events on Long Island – any reason why? There are several stores out here in Suffolk county. Would like to see they participate in your events as well.

    • Hi D – Thanks for your comment! Feedback like this is very useful, since we’d want to make sure there’d be interest before hosting an event in the Long Island area. We’d love to see something like last weekend’s event happen in LI. We’ll pass on your support to our DIY event planners. Thanks again for chiming in!

  19. Hi, when will the Pompton Plains, NJ store finally open? We’ve been waiting for well over a year now.

  20. Hi, when are you going to open the Goodwill store on Route 23 in Pequannock, NJ? It’s had a sign out there for months but i’m still waiting!

  21. Hello. I shop Goodwill a couplel times a month, always find something. I recently went to Florida and shopped there (in 2 stores!). They have a new one in Spring HIll, Fl and it has tons of NEW merchandise! Unfortunately they do not have the reward card or color of the day (discount) like Northern NJ does. Can I bring in my receipts and apply them toward my NJ Rewards card?

    • Hi Rae Ann,

First things first: thank you for your multi-state support of Goodwill! Shoppers like you are the reason we’re able to keep our programs and services operating, helping people find jobs and move towards their dreams of economic stability. Unfortunately we are not able to grant points for Goodwill purchases outside our region. While GoodwillNyNj is part of a national network of Goodwill International, we are all independent community-based nonprofit organizations with separate regional expenses, programs, services and stores.

One idea we had for you, though, is that you could try contacting the headquarters of the local Florida Goodwill to see if they have are planning a similar rewards program for their region. It sounds, from your post, like they don’t have one up and operating yet, but perhaps soon they will catch on and start a program of their own. (As you and we both know, it’s a great way to celebrate the customer, so we hope they catch on soon!)

All this said, we are incredibly grateful for your support and hope you keep using your card in our area when you’re in town and that you keep enjoying rewards with it. Thank you again for shopping Goodwill!

      Best,
      GoodwillNyNj
